i liked the idea. and i love the music.

But, i couldn't stand the lead character or the manager woman.

Not sure what i was expecting but, it wasn't a guy with the entire Beatles collection in his head allowing himself to be treated like shite by a person who obviously had no idea what great music is/was.

although the scene where he first plays Yesterday and the song writing competition scene were both really good.

I agree Kate McKinnon was awful in it (as usual). But I really liked the concept behind it and the execution for the most part. I think it was kinda the point that some people would not recognize how great the songs actually are (I would say "music," but without the actual Beatles, all we get are the lyrics).

I thought the lead did well enough though. And one of my favorite things about it was how difficult it would be to actually remember all of the words to the songs. Most of us know them "by heart" for the most part, but that may not mean 100% of the lyrics.

I thought it was a nice, fun little movie. Nothing more than that really.

But again, just want to reiterate that Kate McKinnon is bad. Really, really bad.

Love the breakdown and agree

We just saw the first session at Apple Studios last night and were rolling as Paul was singing that newspaper article shite talking about the break up while they were all playing together

“Unlike the others, Ringo never developed an inclination toward the bizarre...” “they will stay together because of the economic necessity....”

Love seeing these dudes just hanging out and having a good time together even in the midst of their “ turmoil” and under the pressure of the upcoming show.

Also saw the Colbert interview with Jackson where he talked about discussing the raw footage with Paul before he started editing.

Found it very interesting that he said he felt some fear from Paul because he expected it appear worse than it actually was and his memories of those sessions were colored by Let It Be and the general public perceptions about what was actually happening between them at the time.

Heard an interview portion with PJ yesterday that made a great point. It's crazy to think that all of these kids in the movie are just that...kids. I think John and Ringo were both 28, Paul 27, and George 25 or so. Think about all the shite they had done and they were all barely old enough to be out of college. Pretty crazy to think about.

But what really stands out to me is that it seems like history has molded Let It Be into their last recording sessions, and thus them "breaking up." It seems like most non-fans don't even realize that this was all recorded before Abbey Road. So like three weeks after the rooftop concert (I think the concert was 1/31 and then on 2/22...) they were back in the studio recording Abbey Road. So even though contentious at times, this was definitely not the band breaking up. Sure, you could see the writing on the walls, and so could they (as they mentioned several times during the Get Back doc). But less than a month later, they were back at work and making great music together again. Kinda weird to think about how between the weird release dates of the albums and the LIB doc, history has sort of framed the recording of LIB as "the breakup of the band," when that's not really the case at all.

None of those ages are kids IMO, particularly in the 1960’s when people weren’t coddled like today.

YMMV

Remembering John Lennon. (Oct. 9, 1940 – Dec. 8, 1980)

Chapman should be burned alive.

I agree! I’ve been listening to nothing but Beatles outtakes and working versions of their stuff ever since I saw Get Back. Damn…

Full disclosure, as a 12 y/o in 1980, I wasn't a fan of the Beatles. I was unfazed when I heard about John's death. It was just another generic celebrity death.

It wasn't until 2005 post-Katrina, I decided to give the Beatles a chance. I took a list of their discography from Wiki and went to You Tube and listened to every song from every album, especially ones that had lyrics in the videos. After 10 hours straight, I was hooked. (The Rubber Soul album was the first one that grabbed me, particularly the song In My Life which touched my soul. And the subsequent albums just cemented my fandom even further.)

Then as a 10 hour old fan, I decided to rewatch the news footage of John's death that I saw & dismissed as a kid. I balled my eyes out like I lost a friend. It was if it had just happened. Then watching videos on Chapman, I was livid. He still makes me angry.

Hear, hear!

I was in my dorm room at college when a friend busted in with the news. I went to his room and TV and listened to Howard Cosell say Lennon was shot. Pissed me the hell off.

BTW, that was not an easy feat for me as a newbie.

A lot of their early albums had different tracklistings depending on where it was released in the UK or USA. So I had to compare the albums of the same name and look for the songs that were missing or added to be able to hear all the songs they recorded.

After a few of those, then thankfully the releases started having identical tracks. Whew!

Yeah, that was a pain. Especially for the UK and USA releases of A Hard Day’s Night. I loved This Boy, but it was instrumental in the American and I had to look back further for it.

I imagine it would be frustrating to be a Beatles collector like Cocomo to have to scour the earth to find all of the multiple rare vinyl releases of the same name.

It's easier for me to just stick with digital.

You probably already know this, but the Beatles also released singles that weren't on the 12 UK albums (or the US Magical Mystery Tour). You may need a copy of Past Masters for those.

Great recommendation. A Beatles fan at work turned me on to those not long after my initial deep-dive.

It was the first time I ever heard "Sie Liebt Dich" (their German language version of "She Loves You", for those interested). I initially LMAO.

I found it was catchier than their german version of I Want To Hold Your Hand one, too.
