As a Beatles fan, I can't wait.

With that said, I can't recall the absurd amount of footage (10 or 15 hours of the recording sessions) that Peter Jackson has available to whittle down to like 3 hours to form a semi-story/narrative for broader audiences. But I don't even need it. I'd watch every minute of the raw unedited footage.

Edit: it's 57 hours. Ho lee phuck.

Guess I'll have to get a month of Disney to watch this. I hate the way all of these companies setting up their own streaming sources makes it so easy to miss something good. I'd rather have everything back on cable than to pay for all of the different streams.

This. But I don’t think that genie is going back in the bottle

I've said that for years, but that's where we are now and like it was said, there's no turning back. At least not for the near future.

As for Get Back, I can't fricking wait for this. And I'm glad they're releasing them in consecutive days. I believe it's three 2-hour episodes, right? I can't get over how incredible the footage looks. Technology is amazing that it can take 50+ year old video footage and make it look like it was shot yesterday in HD.

I think the best thing we are going to find out as Beatles fans is that they all actually still loved/enjoyed each other in the end. It appears that way from the trailers.

Peter Jackson is a true prodigy amongst filmmakers. And I can't say enough about Andy Serkis playing every member of the band flawlessly. The CG here is flawless. It's so seemless, almost as if it was real.

I found the film Let It Be to be depressing as hell. The contrast of that gloomy approach to a view of them being relaxed, laughing, and cutting up is wonderful to see. I have no doubt they loved one another, but I believe the contract stipulations from that time period forced them to spend more time together in the studio than with their own families.

It’s only natural that they had music they wanted to put out on their own that wouldn’t be allowed as a “Beatle’s song.” Case in point would be While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Harrison and Clapton spent time after it was recorded tweaking (“flanging,” I believe they called it back then) Clapton’s guitar playing in order to make it sound more like a Beatles-sounding song. My Sweet Lord, Isn’t it a Pity, and I THINK All Things Must Pass were outright rejected by the others to be worked on to be included in a Beatles album. Isn’t It A Pity had been around since at least 1966 and was rejected for either Revolver or Rubber Soul. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, please.

I can’t WAIT to see this!! I’ve had bootlegs from this era and it would be nice if they released them ALL to supplement what they released with the new super deluxe box set that just came out.

For some reason, it never occurred to me that they could use this as a "new" album release opportunity, and yet that happens all the time. Wow!

Would love to see this, but I’ll have to wait. I hate Disney and can’t think of anything they could show that would coerce me to subscribe to Disney+.

I'll watch.

But it's going to be tough to top the Hulu special with Rick Rubin and Paul McCartney (McCartney 3, 2, 1). That shite was absolutely amazing if you're remotely a music fan.

I'm scheduled to sign up for Hulu in January (once my current multiple-family/money-involved/stream-sharing agreement ends). But that "McCartney 3,2,1" series you're talking about makes me want to sign up now.

That's why I'm glad Peter Jackson is at the helm.

After seeing how he restored grainy b&w World War 1 footage into colorized HD 60fps footage in his "They Shall Not Grow Old" documentary, I knew the Beatles footage was in great hands.

I don't remember if those songs were left off or which albums, but even today I still think George was not as good of a writer as John and Paul, at least consistently. I love the Beatles and like almost all of their 213 official songs, but outside of several standouts from George most of his entries were subpar (compared to J&P) IMO. However, when he was at his songwriting best he was as good as J&P though.

The best Beatles songs from George IMO are:
Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Here Comes the Sun
Taxman
Blue Jay Way

His others just weren't in the same league IMO.

I saw that in the theater, and it was pretty awesome.

I was watching a video about this yesterday, and it showed Peter Jackson talking about how the video restoration was easy at this point. But what he said was the new audio technology they have now is incredible and allowed them to basically separate anything they wanted to. So the tech can recognize John or Paul's voice, and then filter out ALL background noise to where you can just hear the voices. He said that what they (especially John) would do was strum guitars and create noise and feedback so that the cameras (shooting LIB) couldn't pick up on what they were saying. And this tech basically allows them to strip away and eliminate all other sounds and noises and focus solely on the voices, so now we can hear conversations that the Beatles thought would never be heard. That was incredible to me.

Here is the clip I'm talking about, and I've timestamped it to the part where PJ talks about the audio: LINK. Pretty cool watch if you have a few minutes.

Also, I'll echo the love for McCartney 321. That was a really cool series, and I hope they do more of those.

To me, Here Comes The Sun is the height of Abby Road. That and Something brought out a creativity in the others that just makes them shine more brightly.

On a side note, have you gotten the Lost Beatles Albums? TONS of studio outtakes. The last release was like 30 albums worth. Someone released a couple of “lost album” boots and whereas a few songs (particularly the Budokan and Swedish concerts) have barely tolerable quality, most of the others sound excellent. Some have been released on the 50th anniversary box sets, and others were new to me. Bootleggers even put together 50th anniversary releases of the earlier albums that feature the songs being polished and reworded to their final form. Fascinating stuff, especially if you’re on a long drive. I found them on the newsgroups.
