Monument Valley worth it if going to Moab/Canyonlands?

Seems like Canyonlands NP has quite a few of the sandstone buttes also, so trying to figure out if Monument Valley is worth a half day or so since its out of the way from everything else?
ETA: Don't have a ton of time. So would be doing more time in Zion, Canyonlands, or Arches if we don't do Monument valley.

I wouldn't do Canyonlands but I would do Bryce Canyon.

We spent a couple nights there a couple years ago. It's beautiful.

Doing both but will take any recommendations? Have kids, i know canyonlands doesn't get much pub but looks like a solid place for kids

A couple nights in Monument Valley? Interesting, what all did you do?

Download the Gypsy App for your phone and purchase the National Parks you are going to visit. It is like having a tour guide in the car with you.

I've done Canyonlands a couple of times. The Maze District is AMAZING...but it's in the middle of nowhere and you must have 4x4 to really see anything. Island In the Sky is much more doable from the road.
Hwy 95 south of the park is the most beautiful road I've ever driven.

We did Monument Valley in June before they reopened the Tribal Park road. It was still a cool place to see. We also drove up to Mexican Hat, UT and did the Valley of the Gods loop and Goosenecks State Park. Enjoyed them as well.
Stayed at Goulding's Lodge for the night in one of the villas. A little expensive, but great location and a decent restaurant.

Monument Valley is pretty flat as a hike. There's Wildcat and Lee trails, and maybe some others. I'm no expert, but living out here its a vista rather than a stop and hike.
Zion is your huckleberry, and the adjacent Kolob Canyon. Canyonlands and Arches are great too, IMO. Just choose what looks interesting to you from Google images from Arches, Canyonlands and Zion and just prioritize. Its all weird Mars topography and great.

I’m not worried about hiking in Monument valley, I’m talking more specifically about the landscape and views. I’m just curious if the buttes are worth it over what can be seen elsewhere in the west? I didn’t realize canyonlands had so many also.

Bryce is amazing but it’s a tough hike because you go down first then back up. Bring plenty of water and rest frequently.
You can do it in a day. One hike to the floor and back up. Then, drive along the park road and stop at the various lookout points.

Damn, we were so lazy after hiking Zion for two days we just did the second part of your itinerary at Bryce.
And were quite happy with it.

Hiked, relaxed, enjoyed the calm and the view never got old...

Dive the Shafer Trail thats close to Moab the scenery is breathtaking. Drove through Monument Valley on the way home. Beautiful scenery. They have some trails to drive around Monument Valley but they were closed for Covid when I was there in March 2020.

Personal opinions obviously, but I don't find Monument Valley worth it. MUCH better views in the Island in the Sky portion of Canyonlands.

If going from Bryce to Moab, add 45 minutes to your drive by taking Hwy 12 through Boulder vs the shorter route. That drive was so mind blowing.
We did not do Monument Valley, but the rest of the Mighty 5. I wished I had more time at each, but I felt like I missed out on Arches the most. The weather was shifting on us, and we didn't get to do many hikes. Mostly it was short walks to the big highlights.
Bryce we didn't go deep. We took the bus all the way down to Bryce Point and hiked the rim trail back up to Sunset point. We packed sandwich makings and stopped half way on that trail to eat lunch. This was after 2 nights in Zion and with two very young boys that often required being carried.
Somewhere I have a tread with pictures, but I think they are just showing as links now.
Found it - Vegas to Mighty 5 to SLC

No Capital Reef? Wtf?
CR is so accessible, so uncrowded, and perfect for kids.
Grand Wash Trail is a blast.
Even if you do only that one hike on the way to Arches.
Monument Valley is fun, but only if you do a Jeep tour with the Navajo. No real hiking there.

We did Moab back in August.
We wanted to do monument valley but couldn't justify the detour driving up from Albuquerque. We did Mesa Verde instead.
There are buttes in Canyonlands and Arches and plenty more around Moab that you will likely pass or see depending on what else you are doing. I'd still like to go to Monument Valley, but I don't feel like I missed out.
FYI, I'm not sure if you primary goal is hiking or sightseeing, but if it's sightseeing don't sleep on Dead Horse Point State Park. It's on the way to Islands in the Sky District in Canyonlands. The advice that I received was hit Canyonlands first, and if you get tired of canyon views, then skip DHP. We almost skipped it but my 8 year old insisted we stop. Boy are we glad we did. There are only so many Canyon views that you are going to have time for, but my reco is to start at Dead Horse Point, THEN go to Canyonlands and then head back home when you get tired. There is no hiking at DHP. It's really just one stop for views, but we thought it was the best view of the entire trip.
