Houston-based Phillips 66 said Monday that it plans to shut its Alliance Refinery in Belle Chasse, La. and convert it to a storage terminal, with the loss of many of the plant's 900 jobs.
The oil company had been trying to sell the plant since August. However, extensive damage caused by Hurricane Ida meant that it was too expensive to repair and restart, the company said.

A local spokesman for the company, Tristan Babin, said that employees had only been told of the decision late Monday and no decision has yet been made about how many jobs will survive the conversion to a storage terminal.

What's their output?

Well, it's sad to see that many people lose their jobs. The hits just keep on coming for Louisiana.

It had capacity to process about 256,000 barrels of crude a day.

There has been a lot of rumors about the Chalmette Valero Refinery in Meraux being on the market or they might close it too.

These refinery only plants are getting closed as most of the companies would rather a huge multi unit complex with various products.
It’s why Shell shuttered Motiva last year after they could not sell it.

Baws need to go get their CDL. Not joking.

As much as I hate this and feel for the people, I can not understand why any company directly or indirectly related to the oil business would ever set foot in Louisiana. With the exception of just getting our oil out of the ground. I'd have them next to the border in Miss, ark, and Texas but I wouldn't spend a nickle in Louisiana if I didn't have to.

540,000. Which is huge, but what really sets it apart is the integration with numerous chemical and other processing facilities nearby.

Gas and oil prices will continue to rise with refining capacity being shuttered. Not like new refining is coming online.

I heard it wasn’t in great condition before the storm

The market is changing whether we want to admit it or not.
We need to decide if we want to get serious about attracting renewable energy jobs. Because to date, we have not been.
