Sports gamblers, what about it is appealing to you?

If you suck at it, you'll lose a lot. If you're good at it, you'll still lose, but not as much. If you're great at it, you might turn a profit. In that case, it becomes a highly stressful job, and if you're consistently profitable they'll change the rules or ban you outright.
At least with poker and horses, you have only the other players to beat. Not the house too (apart from the rake).

Because it’s way more fun to watch a game you bet 100 bucks

same thing I like about fantasy football. It makes a game that I otherwise have no interest in, very interesting to me. Even if it's not supposed to be a close game it can still be fun to watch.

This. Only this.
It brings entertainment to your life. Doubt anybody here is doing this professionally and making a living doing. It's purely to enhance one's experience watching sports.

in your opinion, what's the best sport to bet on for a virgin sports gambler?

You should read up on how horse betting works

Different strokes I guess. If I have a rooting interest I don't need an incentive. If I don't care about the outcome having money on the game would turn a neutral experience into an unpleasant one. If you could win in the long run, that would be one thing. But it's rigged so you won't. And if you're good enough to overcome that, like I said they'll change the rules or ban you.

Put a jar on your counter. Place your bets with the jar instead of using a bookie. At the end of the season, take the money out the jar and put it back in your wallet.
You will be pleased

Gambling sucks. Winning is fun as shite though

The Colts and Jets play tonight and as a Saints fan I have no interest in either team, but now that I’ve made a few prop bets in tonight’s game, I’ll be avidly watching.

Take points in the NFL.
Underdogs are hot.
Plus nothing is more aggravating than watching a team that didn't cover but win and celebrate.

I am finding that I don't love the grind of betting a bunch of games. But, I like betting big on a few. I emotional hedged Michigan State last week and $2,400 helped ease the pain.

There’s really not that many hobbies out there that are going to be a net positive on your bank account so I don’t see what’s confusing about why people enjoy it despite not making money

I enjoy figuring out an angle and putting it into action.
Pre Rona, it was also fun to talk to other fans while I waited in line at the casino.

Because I follow the sports and have knowledge that give me an edge over Vegas. At least, that is what I tell myself. I have lost every sports bet (not many) that I placed this year

Case in point. That guy works his arse off, probably harder than he'd have to work to be successful in a legitimate job.

Bingo. Tuesday night MACtion is something I'll watch, but it's something I will really get into if I throw a dumb parlay on it that pays +11000. It's a way to make any game that's on interesting.

Same as fantasy football
It’s much more fun to watch the Colts/Jets on a Thursday night in November when you have something at stake. Otherwise I wouldn’t have known it was on.
