The ATL Thread: 2021 World Champion Atlanta Braves Offseason Thread

We can let this fade to the next few pages and continue celebrating in the pinned thread but I figured I would go ahead and get this started for whenever we turn our attention to the details of the repeat.

Not a ton of holes/questions going in to the off-season. Freddie obviously the biggest storyline but there is a lot of $$$ available and zero alternative at 1B so have to think something gets done there. Ozuna situation bears watching as well and we need a resolution there. Have to think one or both of Soler/Rosario will be back pending the Ozuna stuff and new CBA. Joc doesn’t seem like he fits the roster to me. Biggest need is probably right handed relief help and maybe some SP for depth purposes coming off a long season and Soroka, Morton, Ynoa all coming off serious injuries.
Will be interesting to see whether or not they finally package some of the young SP who are on the cusp for some additional major league help as well. Somebody like Buxton still makes a lot of sense imo. A trade for an OF wouldn’t shock me.

We enter the long baseball winter (and lockout) with a burning fire in our hearts.
Sign Freddie or we Sherman the Battery.

1. Sign Freddie
2. Assuming the DH is in play for next year, gotta sign 2 of Duvall/Joc/Soler/Rosario (I prefer Soler, duh, and it's a toss up between Duvall and Rosario with a lean toward the latter)
3. Would still like one more TOR starter but not sure where he would come from. Not many FA. With Soroka's status in the air, we need that 4th guy.

I wouldn't hate an outfield of Rosario/Acuna/Soler with Duvall rotating in the corners (or center I guess) and Ozuna DHing, assuming everything gets settled there. Though I think Rosario and Soler are both getting much bigger deals now this offseason, so it'll prob be tough to keep both.
Trade Pache and some of our AAA SP's for a postseason-level starting pitcher and some RH relief.
Acuña CF
Freeman 1B
Ozuna DH
Riley 3B
Rosario LF
Soler RF
Albies 2B
D'Arnaud C
Swanson SS
Fried
Morton
Anderson
New Guy
Soroka

The Ozuna thing and CBA will have a huge impact obviously. To me it seems almost like an either/or of Soler/Ozuna as the DH. Ozuna is a better version of Soler if he’s right. If it doesn’t get worked out though Soler fills that role very well.
I would honestly prefer a Rosario/Duvall platoon in LF, Acuña in RF and Buxton or Marte in CF.
Then buy a couple right handed relievers. Payroll should be around $180m with all the revenue they’ve brought in in the last month.

Whatever happens, I'm not saying a damn word about AA.

I'm looking forward to seeing what shakes out this off-season, as it should be interesting. I don't post much, but I think I am going to start posting more.
Wish list:
1. Freddie re-signed
2. Soroka healthy
3. Sort out the Ozuna mess
4. Sign Rosario and/or Soler; I think Pederson wants to go back to Chicago from some of his comments. If I had my way both Rosario and Soler would be signed.
5. Get another quality starting pitcher; please no more re-runs/has-beens

I think the Braves will end up being on the hook for all of Ozuna's contract. I don't think it is a given that he's gone, but I do think it is likely.
It would be weird to let Duvall walk again, but he is 3rd on my list of the new outfielders to resign. Rosario and Soler, in that order, would be prioritized first.

I think it finally happens, and I think Wright is the centerpiece. Hopefully someone sees the guy who mowed down the Astros in Game 4 and overpays for him. I'm guessing he gets combined with another younger pitcher (Vodnik? Tarnok?) and one of Waters or Pache. My number one trade target would be Ketel Marte.
I also think we're going to look to add one more established major league starter to put with Charlie, Max, and Ian. I don't think we can reasonably count on Soroka; if he comes back as his old self, then consider it a bonus. Do we make a run at Shane Bieber? Maybe ask Arizona about packaging Marte and Zac Gallon in a blockbuster and sweeten the pot going back their way to include Contreras and Davidson.

Even if I still wanted to, what can I say? His philosophy of getting every bit of baseball you can out of the best possible scraps available (used lovingly) has been vindicated, over my noisy objections. I've always caveated that I don't truly know what AA had to work with and he was probably restrained, but nonetheless he made it work.

yeah i want 4 stud starters in the rotation. get another to help max, ian and chuck. if soroka comes back beasting that gives us 5 solid starters and would make us tough to beat in any 7 game series once again but even morso.

Contreras
I think they are going to want to get Langeliers one more full season as an everyday catcher in AAA. This past year in Mississippi was his first year catching with one knee down.
At some point we're trading Contreras, could be this offseason if we go out and get a vet backup or we may keep him as the backup and hope his bat continues to increase his trade value.

Duvall is interesting. With the mutual option and him also being arb eligible you almost have to think a 2 year deal that voids all the issues that come with a mutual option that’s a little under market value and a buyout attached to it and the possibility of a non tender on the back end of that makes the most sense.
Something like 2 years 15-16 mil maybe?

I think Contreras gets traded at some point and TDA/Langeliers split time next season with Langeliers slowly taking more of the playing time as the next two years progress.
Posted on 11/3/21 at 12:05 pm to Broski
I think Langeliers is clearly the guy after TDA but if we keep Contreras around I bet the plan would be to get him a couple starts a week in Atlanta during the first half next year and see what we have.

Do we make a run at Shane Bieber?
Bieber was hurt last season, and once the Indians were out of the picture, thankfully was not rushed back. He came back, and looked good, albeit for an shortened outing or two.
The Indians, which I am disavowing when the become the Guardians (frick that), kept Bieber when they dealt away other pitchers. He is their centerpiece, and it would take a lot for them to get rid of him. He is dominant though and would be an incredible get, but at what cost? The Indians are rebuilding so it is worth a shot.

I think they want Langeliers playing every day in Gwinnett for sure. If they trade Contreras I think they would sign a vet to back up TDA.
Something else that probably needs to be addressed is the bench. This year’s bench was absolutely atrocious and really never showed any signs of life or production outside of Soler/Joc a couple games in the playoffs.
I’m a huge AA fan but the fact that we won a WS with a bench as brutal as this one was is pretty remarkable.

Kyle Wright is an interesting case.
Two years in a row now where he has had a lights out postseason performance. Do we finally give him a chance where we start him in Atlanta and keep him up there no matter what for the whole year to see what we have, or use him as a trade chip this offseason?
I really have no idea what his trade value is right now.

If he brings in another soft tossing lefty I may have a few choice words initially.

Yep. Need to have a competent left-handed bat off the bench.
