New movie filmed in Baton Rouge, False River signals return of 'Hollywood South'

It's a moving about a rowing team; produced by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
LSU stands in for a northeastern ivy league school with a competitive rowing team. The water scenes were filmed in New Roads on False River.

NEW ROADS - "Hollywood South" is back in business, as a new movie filmed on False River and in Baton Rouge make its debut.
'Heart of Champions', starring Michael Shannon, released this weekend. Cornell Dukes, mayor of New Roads, says he is impressed with the movie's message geared toward youth.
"Work together as a team, take pride in yourself and have an appreciation for leadership. Because leadership is not always nice but it's beneficial in the end," Dukes said.

The movie, filmed in late 2019 during the early stages of the pandemic, has already helped boost tourism in the city. Parts of the production also took place on LSU's campus.

LA stopped (or reduced) giving out the film tax credit that attracted the films to come here in the first place and Georgia came in and filled the void

Georgia was already on the uptick around 2012 ... Louisiana altered it's tax credits rightfully so and the impact was on salaries over a million. That's why you don't see the tentpoles, but it's incredibly busy with film and TV in the state. Including David Fincher's latest.
With Atlanta being a major city with space to build studios and a growing crew base it became the hub of southern filmmaking and will continue to be. But Louisiana has a talented crew base, solid infrastructure and plenty of projects in the pipeline.

They were only in Donaldsonville for a short time. Some was shot in Thibidoux, but most is in the New Orleans area.

Did Baton Rouge and Lafayette ever get their own union designation?
That's was of the reasons I was against the state film tax credits.

They fricked the tax credits up a while back which sent production to Atlanta and North Carolina. Hopefully, they fixed the incentives back (haven't paid attention recently).
