NEW ROADS - "Hollywood South" is back in business, as a new movie filmed on False River and in Baton Rouge make its debut.
'Heart of Champions', starring Michael Shannon, released this weekend. Cornell Dukes, mayor of New Roads, says he is impressed with the movie's message geared toward youth.
"Work together as a team, take pride in yourself and have an appreciation for leadership. Because leadership is not always nice but it's beneficial in the end," Dukes said.

The movie, filmed in late 2019 during the early stages of the pandemic, has already helped boost tourism in the city. Parts of the production also took place on LSU's campus.

Can someone explain to me why there haven't been alot of movies really shot in NOLA or BR the past few years?

NOLA is swamped right now with productions. Doing business with three separate ones now.

I can't wait for the scene when some a-hole owner threatens the rowing team with a gun for getting too close to his pier

This is the same guy who is using the city's credit card to buy personal body guards.

LA stopped (or reduced) giving out the film tax credit that attracted the films to come here in the first place and Georgia came in and filled the void

Georgia was already on the uptick around 2012 ... Louisiana altered it's tax credits rightfully so and the impact was on salaries over a million. That's why you don't see the tentpoles, but it's incredibly busy with film and TV in the state. Including David Fincher's latest.
With Atlanta being a major city with space to build studios and a growing crew base it became the hub of southern filmmaking and will continue to be. But Louisiana has a talented crew base, solid infrastructure and plenty of projects in the pipeline.

Leadership: "You guys work, I'll be banging the housekeeper. Let me know when you're done."

Rowing backgrounds are clearly CGI nonsense.

Netflix is also shooting "We Have a Ghost" down in Donaldsonville.

I wonder if my old camp will be in the footage.
Looks like they filmed where the nice big houses are, so that’s decidedly a no…

2021 is the biggest year ever for film production in Louisiana.

They were only in Donaldsonville for a short time. Some was shot in Thibidoux, but most is in the New Orleans area.

Did Baton Rouge and Lafayette ever get their own union designation?
That's was of the reasons I was against the state film tax credits.

They fricked the tax credits up a while back which sent production to Atlanta and North Carolina. Hopefully, they fixed the incentives back (haven't paid attention recently).
