Football crowds and covid:

QUOTE: ...yet the college football season is well under way and producing "real-world data" to help determine whether it's finally time to obsess less about virions and more about, say, Big 10 rankings.
"I think it's really unfortunate," Dr Fauci has remarked, taking his cue from a CNBC host who noted crowded stadiums and fed him this prompt: "I thought COVID is about to have a feast. What do you think?"
It must be said this novel type of clinical trial isn't randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled. It's not controlled in the least. What it is, though, is huge.
Let's look at one: Penn State vs Auburn, played in the "Happy Valley" of Pennsylvania which is home to the Nittany Lions. Home fans arrived in uniform with white shirts, white sweaters, white body-paint — a "White Out" across a stadium not exactly built for social distancing (capacity: 106,572). I have nephews — young and trim alums — who must contort themselves while fitting into spaces tighter than the cheap seats on a puddle-jumper airline.
Data? According to the university, seven-day-average infectivity rates among students have fallen consistently from 1 percent on the day of the Auburn game to 0.2 percent currently. Students in quarantine, either because they show COVID symptoms or fall within a contact-tracing chain, have dropped from 34 to 4, this in a home-campus population of 46,000. These trends hold for the entire season to date. (The Auburn game was played on September 18; there have been home games before and since then.)

More data showing outside transmission is extremely rare even in incredibly packed places, further proving LSU COVID policies surrounding entrance into the stadium were fricking dumb

Can you post a link to whatever you’re quoting, please?

The polcies were never about safety, they were about liability. I know most of yall can't understand things this complex but if someone could prove they got Covid at an LSU game and LSU had zero policies in place in the middle of a wave (there was a big wave back in August), They would get sued.
Again the protocols weren't about saftey, they were about dollars. If you can't understand that the multi million dollar business of LSU athletics needed to cover their asses just in case then you're just sticking your head in the sand.

You're full of BS.
The Feds won't allow China-virus lawsuits. And, the courts would never rule in favor of anyone suing.
LSU's policy is about liberal-socialist wokeness.

You're not going to be popular with these comments but you are 100% correct. Not just for LSU but nation wide. Restaurants, shopping malls, doctors offices, airlines, etc all just trying to cover their butts from lawsuits that everyone KNOWS would happen if you didn't have precautions in place.

Then why didn’t we see every other university in the country have similar restrictions for their home games?
Either LSU is the only school in the SEC with sufficient legal foresight and acumen that every other school in the conference was too stupid to do this, or there was something at play other than protecting legal liability.
You’re right that this wasn’t about safety. You’re wrong that it was about protecting against legal liability. It was all about messaging. The administration just wanted their social class to know that they were one of the “good ones”. It was solely an attempt to influence the perception, pure and simple.

Then why haven’t any of the schools who didn’t have similar restrictions in place get sued?
If this was truly an attempt to shield against legal liability, then the decision makers grossly misestimated the likelihood of being the target of a lawsuit. That’s the absolute best case scenario for your argument.

There is 0% chance of proving where someone “caught” Covid. 0%.

Explain how this would work. Proving one caught Covid at a restaurant? Lol

They would get sued.
and LSU would prevail in a lawsuit because it would be impossible to prove. The fans entering also would have to deal with assumption of risk as an affirmative defense even if they could prove exactly where the contracted COVID, which again would be almost impossible to prove causation.
There's a reason why you haven't seen any lawsuits filed and won over catching COVID. In fact, around 30 states have enacted legislation giving businesses immunity from liability pertaining to these types of suits.

They were about political optics, period. If it was about dollars, LSU wouldn't have been the only SEC school and one of the only programs period to implement the measures they did.

I think the LSU stadium requirement was also about creating another incentive for folks to get vaccinated. Arguable whether it succeeded at all, as those LA numbers remain relatively low overall.

When cowards are running the show you get lies and fear porn. This will not end.

I guess no other SEC school wa worried about liability

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. Don’t pay attention to the propaganda. Your eyes tell you the whole Covid scare is BS.

quote:This is such BS. First of all it is impossible to determine where someone contracts a virus from. Covid is everywhere you can pick it up anytime you step outside your house. Second, how many schools have been sued because someone got covid at a game they held? Probably none

The policy wasn't about not getting sued it was because LSU/Louisiana are run by crazy leftists who just to score points and to outdo the other crazy leftists when it comes to covid. It's all about control
It's all about them trying to push the vaccine on people who don't want it

The WHO came out and said Asymptomatic spread was a farce... its the reason behind the mask, social distancing, and capacity limits.
This thing is done.
