If you haven’t bought shells yet, I suggest you buy now.

I’m working with one of the “higher ups” from Federal this week. The picture he painted at supper tonight was scary. They’re seriously worried about totally losing the casual hunter this year because they won’t be able to purchase ammo.

I Only have about 75-100 cases left. Luckily I ordered 3000 cases in January because I saw the writing on the wall. Rely on China for steel. China is using their steel for their infrastructure and not sending much this way

The crux is a powder issue. Yes every part of a shell has supply chain issues.

The powder is the most restrictive part of this crunch. Shotgun loads are at the back of the allocation line.

I'm bummed as shooting was one of my favorite hobbies years and years ago. I used to shoot 1k rounds of 9mm a month doing USPSA matches. I got to be a A-B class shooter.

Between expense and availability the hobby is effectively ruined.

I hope your buddy is wrong as regionally we had seen 12 ga shotshell supply rebound a little around BR.

Not sure what the future brings but this current situation sucks. Can't produce stuff or get raw materials from overseas due to supply chain issues. And can't afford to produce said raw materials and manufactured components in the US due to excess regulations and taxation.

Academy on siegen had shells at lunch today. I got two boxes of black cloud.

They still had a lot of black cloud and hevi bismuth on the shelves.

I was able to buy a case of 16 ga steel last week. Do a little research and watch carefully. If you want shotgun shells you can get them. You may just need to put a little bit of effort into it unlike years past.

Unfortunately, this means the casual hunter probably won't get the shells.

Maybe this will result in lower harvest numbers and some populations will rebound?? Just trying to find a silver lining here...

This has been going on for over 6 months with non toxic loads. If you haven't been scouring for steel shot for the last 4 months you are well behind the curve. Getting real shitty around here...damn shame.

I kept thinking it would get better, as we got closer, but bought anything I could all off-season anyway. You've got to really search to find anything now.

This is part of the issue though. Look I don't know the solution, its a big picture. But everyone going out and buying stuff they "might" need is not the answer either.

It works a hell of a lot better when everyone just goes on friday morning to buy their weekend ammo.

When everyone hordes it before the season including the guys that might shoot 1/2 box the 2 times they go but buy 5 boxes....we cause problems.

I don't know anyone that does this except for the guy that goes duck hunting twice a year. In the past big stores that specialize in waterfowl, IE Mack's, would run out of better ammo by Christmas. This year, I have been looking since June and its looking very grim still. WE, didn't cause this!

No way that's realistic for guys who hunt 20+ times a year. Infinitely easier to just get two cases shipped to your house for the season.
