Than the GOP can put up a candidate that has read the Constitution and understands US history.
Running for a State government role using your support for the Federal government is insane. No matter who the President is, your role is to know what is better for your state better than voters in NY, TX, CA, or FL. You can’t default to the feds even if you kind’ve like the guy in charge of it now (reference: Edwards, Jon Bel - who I personally think DGAF about Covid rules either but feels forced by his more National friends).

The "butthurt Ralph people" people are morons. They don't realize that 44% of the LA electorate is neither democrat or republican. When they let Rispone's fake Trump purity test influence their decision, the game was over.
So no, it wasn't butthurt Ralph people. It was the 44% who didn't want a right wing zealot. The biggest joke of all is that Rispone isn't even that. He's just an a-hole who claims to love Trump while not having to really prove anything - and who brought Common Core to LA schools. Yeah, super conservative.
And it's going to happen next time too, because the same morons will have learned nothing, as usual.

This thread would’ve been better on the Poli board.
Maybe, but by posting it on here OP is actually generating some discussion that hopefully will be useful as lessons learned for 2023.
Had this been posted on the PoliBoard, half the responses would be that Rispone won “bigly” but Dominion stole the election from him, and stole it from Vitter in 2015.

I agree and I voted for Rispone with absolutely no hesitation at all. We needed JBE gone and Rispone promised us he would do it.
Too bad for us that Rispone ran one of the worst campaigns ever in Louisiana history and hired grifter consultants from out of state to run his campaign, grifters that knew next to nothing about Louisiana politics and how it's a relationship business.
Making his campaign about how he's a huge Trump fanboy and nothing else of substance? Jefferson Parish suburbs getting the same message rural North Louisiana got?

How did Rispone do that?
The last few elections have been a mess - the Republican party needs to get its act together, it almost seems as if they are hurting themselves on purpose.

Louisiana's state GOP can't stop stepping on their own dick. The only southern state with a democrat governor = a southern state with a grossly inept republican party.
The only way the Louisiana republicans can make headway is to get rid of these absolute and complete morons who put your campaign contributions in their boat's gas tank every weekend:
Once again, you display your absolute ignorance but that's to be expected from a republican who voted for John Bel Edwards.
The Louisiana GOP is one of the weakest state party organizations in the country and it's been that way for a long time.
The LA GOP works for the politicians, not the other way around like you think it is in reality. The chairman can't even get the House Speaker, Clay Schexnadyer to do some very basic things like whipping votes for a veto override or cajole a specific legislator to vote for conservative legislation he campaigned on. They have no power to speak of.
If the LA GOP had the power you think they do, JBE would be a nobody in Amite chasing ambulances and 18 wheelers and David Vitter would be finishing up his 2nd term and getting into the final phase of his reform agenda.

Rispone’s campaign was embarrassing. A total failure in a red state with the endorsement of the president.
Posted on 10/26/21 at 2:16 pm to footballfan23
No. Dude was a completely empty clown. Saw him speak at a Trump rally, and he was useless. As was Bill Cassidy, btw...also unsuprisingly.
Says a lot that even the God Emperor couldn't get him elected here. Low energy, pass.

Y'all could have elected a medical doctor with a sterling reputation. Instead you voted for a walking cartoon character because you were allergic to anyone from north of I-10.
I couldn't believe so many people wanted Rispone over Abraham. I figured Abe would have won that race easily. The "one of us" syndrome never fails for people in South LA.

Vitter in 2015 did not actually run a real campaign
If Rispone ran the same kind of campaign that Vitter ran in 2015, he beats JBE by a comfortable margin. Vitter had a very impressive platform that was fully fleshed out.
That's how lazy and tone deaf Rispone was.
quote:
neither did Abraham
Abraham was running a fine campaign and didn't make his campaign about Trump and would've beaten JBE in the runoff.
His biggest problem was money and he was getting outspent by Rispone by a huge margin.
Can't win if you have no money, especially with the lopsided ratio your opponent is spending by.

They are all lazy and got outworked by JBE, which is astonishing.
Vitter had to deal with Angelle and Dardenne constantly nipping at his heels and making shite up about him including a claim about him killing hookers at a debate.
Vitter's only mistake was that he didn't anticipate the threat that JBE posed in the runoff and let him sneak in without so much as a single mailer, ad spot or social media post about him.
That's on him and him only and he earned the loss on that basis.

quote:That's because most of them are still Democrats, at heart. They read the tea leaves, the omens, the portents and know that "Democrat" is more-or-less a losing brand in Louisiana at election time. They KNOW the most Louisianians are moderately conservative on many issues, enough that the national "Democrat" agenda is harmful to them in state electoral politics.

So most of them have made the jump, but not happily. I mean gimme a break, John Alario, a Republican???

My biggest disappointment with John Bel is that his family has a strong law enforcement background and pretty sure he was endorsed by most police organizations. He missed some great opportunities to actually lead.
He could have picked up the phone and told Latoya that he would not put up with the crime in this state's "marquis city."
He could have picked up the phone and told Broome he would not put up with the crime in this state's capitol.
JBE is all about politics first and foremost and he will not do anything to undermine that.
JBE was the democrats party leader in the state house of representatives and that's not a position you get without being an absolute hack that totes the absolute bottom line for the democrats.
Furthermore, his voting record was to the left of the black caucus.
The myth/mirage that JBE is this conservative blue dog dixiecrat that's almost a republican was just that, a myth/mirage to fool and soothe low info GOP voters into getting comfortable with dumping Vitter and stopping Rispone.
And then JBE governs as the partisan liberal democrat he really is behind closed doors.

You can play this game back to the start

Politicians are like backup quarterbacks, people always think the one not currently doing the job would be better for the job.
You have no idea how Rispone would have handled the pandemic. You can assume, but you truly have no idea. And Rispone needed a better campaign manager. He lost the election with the first commercials he started airing.
He started early to get his name out there, but a lot of people were turned off by the commercial and made their decision right away. It just didn't make him look like a leader.
