There's 5 weeks left of college football (not counting conf championship or playoff).
Putting an offer in front of Riley now is smart but the likelyhood of him accepting is small - the money is there but his team is still undefeated and poised to make a playoff run (regardless of what this fan base things there is still a 0.0001% chance he can win)

I don't doubt Woodward made the offer I just think realistically we won't end up with a Riley. Rather an Aranda, Tucker or Napier type.

FSU was starting to be in shambles when Jimbo left. Completely different than how OU is now.
Petersen was at Boise for 10 yrs winning consistently but UW was a better job and chance to be on the big stage.

Not doubting Woodward but this fan base needs to be realistic. The chance of Riley coming is slim to none.

As to the NFL rumors...

Mike Tomlin or any nfl coach will be hard to pull because even if they did accept it would be almost impossible to get them to leave their team mid season. Nfl ends Jan 9th not including playoffs

You go the NfL route you are missing in early signing day and possibly even national signing day (Feb 2). If a Tonkin accepted and finished our regular season (hypothetically stating they don't make playoffs) he has a few weeks to put together a staff and try to close out signing day (great HC with zero recruiting experience...) use this example for any current NFL coach

Yep.

I’m guessing it is a:

Aranda, Kiffin, Napier, Tucker ( alphabetically) type hire.

I’m good with that. I’ll be ecstatic if it is a “whale”. But, just expecting a really good football guy and LSU will win with that in a big way

I'm not saying it's Aranda at all - I just meant it will be a tier 2, second option type hire.

Aranda is a great DC but I dont feel confident in his HC experience. If you want him, might as well ty to snag Pete Golding from Bama.

I think the only “whale” (if you want to call it that) would be Jimbo.

I will not rule him out until the coach is announced.

How many times has it happened? Is Tomlin seriously a Petrino?

Aranda hasn’t been a HC long enough to get this job. Woody will get a big fish. Have no idea which one it’ll be though.

If Carolina doesn't get Watson in a trade this month, Rhule may be ready to bounce. Fans there are furious with his decision to roll with Darnold, and he might see college as where he belongs after trying to live his NFL dream.

May be the most realistic thing I’ve seen posted here in two weeks.

Get out of here with that noise! No one has time for that.

Terrible season last year.
Now 3-4 after a 3-0 start.

Could be a Saban Miami scenario in the making.

If Tomlin were the guy, the wait would be worth it. This is the long game. Next year may suffer, but it is the long-term outlook that matters.

Rhule can't blame Brady entirely, the overall effort yesterday was putrid, especially from Darnold, for which Rhule had to be involved in bringing to Charlotte. I'm not so sure Rhule wouldn't be over his head in BR either.

Definitely not the only "whale" possibility.

Dabo
Riley
Jimbo
Kiffin
Fickell

Plus maybe one not being mentioned. I'll admit it's unlikely BUT still ya never know.

The only way Jimbo is a whale is financially.
