I have family members that are teachers and work for the Feds/State. I love them but pensions are not sustainable they agree but won't fight it obviously.

You don't see the difference between govt pensions and private employer pensions/401k?

You are welcome to your pension, but new govt employees need to move to a system like the taxpayers have.

But this is excessive govt spending which affects us all

Absolutely. If you receive these special benefits you don't want to lose them, but the tax burdens on a shrinking tax base are already overburdened.

And govt keeps growing instead of shrinking.

Yep and plenty of good teachers have to invest their own money for resources because they take pride in their job and school funding is trash. Good teacher will also stay til the last child goes home and sometimes that's 5:30 cause kids mom pulled a double at McDonald's.

I don't get the hate for teachers. No different than hating the police. Teachers spend more time with your child than you will and the more people crap on them the more good ones will leave for better paying jobs. Then you end up with a bunch of direlects only there to collect a check and expose themselves to your kids.

Why can't everyone just be a little more respectful.

Wait till you find out how much of the Orleans parish budget goes to pay mismanaged firemen pensions. But then again why shouldn’t they be allowed to invest aggressively and pass the risk to the taxpayer.

After 40 years state employees get 100% of their salary.

Salary x 2.5% x years

Teachers and fireman have nothing on coaches.

Tyler Summitt, age 26 in 2016, started to collect on his late mother's state pension.
He will receive $14,460 a month for the rest of his life.

Joe Paterno's wife took the lump sum payment from his state pension, but since it was over $10 million, the rest had to be paid out over the next two years.

Kirk Ferentz, 66, has work at Iowa for 32 years, and is the highest paid state employee.

Nothing against him, but that is a ridiculous burden on taxpayers for what might be 70+ years.

Pensions should have been banned long ago. The military should be the only ones that receive. City, government workers, teachers etc.. should not be getting retirement options after 20 years of service. Pensions are crippling cities and states.

So if she started teaching at 22 and taught for 30 years and retires at 52. That's a nice chunk of change to receive the rest of your life.

Bobby Jindal tried to do this

Jindal wanted to combine retirement plans for teachers and state employees. They are two different retirement funds. The teachers fund is flush with cash from some pretty wise investments, the state employees fund is a fricking disaster. Instead of having the state employees get their shite together, he was just going to frick up both of them. Jindal was nothing more than an illusionist that only looked at short term goals.

frick him.
