Would the NFL ever consider experimenting with 15 yds for a first down?

With the explosive offenses of today’s game and football continuing to evolve, would they ever experiment with 1st and 15. The defense is almost non existent and teams usually only get stopped when the play calling failed, not that the defense actually stoped them. Adding the extra yards would allow the defense to become relevant again.

No, because people are more entertained with good offense more than good defense.
The days of 7-3 games are over.

There would be few rushing attempts. Would be just like Canadian football. Would be nice to see the QB get hit a little bit more without a flag.

People like offense. Shootouts. Not 10-7 defensive tussles

Nope!
What they need to do is realize these guys aren't ready to play on a Thursday and stop this stupidity.
And, these teams that do play on a Thursday have a huge advantage over their next opponet.

That would assume Americans are good at math. Let’s say the ball is at teams own 39 yd line, it would cause fans in the stand a meltdown to figure where the first down marker is at.

Nope. People want fantasy points
Fantasy is a huge driver of popularity in the NFL

That combined with commercials. The games a pretty long and without some serious action between the breaks in play, it’s too boring for most people.

Fantasy football and gambling drive football. Anything that hurts those two things is just never going to happen.

Make every player eligible to receive a pass on first down only

I heard there was some emails in the Washington Football Team investigation people wanted to make it 7 yards for 1st down.

In your bizzaro world of 1st and 15, I added a 5th down to get a first.

Lol how about just make 7 guys actually line up on the LOS. Stop letting tackles lineup 3-4 yards in the backfield

Yet Defense still wins championships.

Exactly. It would ruin football by eliminating the running game

TIL the commissioner of the CFL posts on TD.

They need to keep defensive holding as a penalty but restrict pass interference to only actions that cause the receiver to lose their feet. I'm tired of offenses getting bailed out because the defender barely touched the receiver on a pass that the receiver wasn't going to catch anyway.

The NFL wants to eliminate defense. They are more likely to go to 5 yards for a first down than they are to go to 15
