Distant Cousin of mines daughter passed last week at 18 from brain cancer. His only child.
They thought the corner was turned last year but this year it came back with the force and they were told she wouldn’t get past 2021

Big Pharma makes too much money off treatments
This statement is wrong in so many ways. There exist several therapeutic options that can extend life and in some cases cure cancer. My mom, my grandma , my uncle and their youngest sister all had cancer. My grandmother passed in here the others alive ranging from 17 years to 9 years form diagnosis. I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer a few years back and had it removed last year and everything is back in order except that it only shoots blanks. I’ve worked in diagnostic and biopharm companies staffed with army’s of people who’ve dedicated their careers to finding a cure or better ways to treat it and to infer they put profit before patients is shameful

You and me both. Took my favorite person of all time viciously.
That’s the worst part is their is no rhyme or reason. It brings otherwise healthy to their knees. The viciousness and quickness (relatively speaking) with which it can punish is something I’ve never witnessed and hope no one I know ever does again. It fricking sucks. Hope there’s a cure in my lifetime. I’m an advocate for early detection programs.
Very sorry for your loss.

While there may well be no rhyme or reason, while receiving treatment for prostate cancer, successfully, I asked one of the radiation therapists how many of the 100 + patients sitting in the waiting room smoked. She didn't blink & answered "90% +". As I've said before, "frick cancer, but double frick smoking".

It is a serious but I have had to learn to laugh about it because guys don’t necessarily talk about what to expect after your prostate is removed and the shooting blanks is a good analogy because after it stands at attention and goes “bang” there’s nothing to clean up

Well for one there are many different types of cancers/tumors so there won't be one singular cure because "cancer" isn't a singular disease. The cure for breast cancer isn't going to be the same cure for prostate cancer or brain cancer or lung cancer or throat cancer, etc.
Also to OP, RIP to your friend. It's never easy and especially so when it happens young and quick and you think you have so many years left.

My wife’s aunt has breast cancer that has now spread to her spinal fluid which is causing her to issues walking, hearing and seeing. Her life expectancy is 2-4 months and with chemo it’s an extra 2 months. So sad, she will be hospice soon. My wife is going to be devastated when she passes.

Cancer is one of the few things we actually have cures for, it can eradicated from the body, but the cures don’t work for everyone, and there is the chance of recurrence. With most every other malady we can only control the effects of the disease. We can control blood sugar with insulin, but you still have diabetes., same for heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. Antibiotics for infections, and vaccines are about the only other true cures we have. Looked st from that perspective it is easy to understand why we not have a actual preventive vaccine or cure for cancer which actually encompasses many different types.

Smoking is the common denominator for cardiovascular disease also beside cancer. In my working life I took care of quite a few patients with bypass surgery and angioplasty..At least 90% smoked or had a history of smoking.
My family has been blessed with the lack of cancer. My dad’s side there were 9 children ,my mother there were 3,there has only been 1 case of cancer. My mother’s brother smoked and died lung cancer.Same for grandchildren,39 grandchildren on both sides counting myself and only 3 cases of cancer, one was a heavy smoker and died at 42 with lung cancer.
