I got my insurance check for damages.. The check is made out to me and my mortgage company. Will I have trouble depositing it into my checking account? I tried to call my insurance company and of course they are busy and I had to leave a message to call me back.

You're going to have to contact your Mortgage company and likely send the check to them after you sign it and they will release funds as you send in invoices/quotes or some shite like that.

You need to contact your mortgage company, they can give you guidance on their handling procedures

That's what I was afraid of... More footwork that I don't need.. I know I sound like a pus but why make it more crappy than it has to be....

Because they have financial stake in your home and will want to see it repaired. If not for the two party check, there’s nothing at all to stop a person from blowing it all on hookers and blow, while the value of the damaged home might stay without repair and worth less than what they’re owed.

Yeah I understand that now.. The mortgage doesn't know me from Adam.. Would there be any reason why the insurance company wouldn't send the check to the mortgage in the first place?
I went through Katrina but lost everything so I didn't have to deal with repairs. The check I got I just sent to the mortgage company as a payoff..

Yes, you’ll have to mail the check to your mortgage company. They’ll authorize it and send it back to you. Then you sign it and take it to the bank. It took a month from the time I sent it off to the time it got returned. It’s a slow process.

Chase did my mortgage. I went to the bank, 10 mins later it was deposited into my account. I asked if there were anything else, they said do what you want with the money. That’s it.
-$34k.

We maxed out house and property limits after the ‘16 flood, and the mortgage company turned around their check endorsement within 5-7 business days. We had 5 checks spread over 5 months or so. Hope your process goes smoothly.

In Gustav, the mortgage company would only send us a check after we had repairs performed and inspected and provided receipts. It was a total pain in the butt. I just used HELOC to pay outright.

Didnt even realize my mortgage company was on the check until after the funds were in my account. Used e deposit. Not sure thay made a difference.

Overnight or 2nd Day air the endorses check to the mortgage company and have another prepaid overnight/2nd day air for them to return. This sped up the time for us after Laura. Good luck.

Seems to be a lot of different information so I’d advise to call your mortgage company. If you have a mortgage, more than likely they will keep it and disburse as their policy. Like someone else said, they more than likely just give you a check to do what you want on a property they own. I had a flood years ago and they gave me 1/3 since I was doing the work myself. After the 1/3 was gone I had to submit receipts and invoices for the money spent and they released another 1/3. After that I had To front the rest, after completion they sent out an inspector and they released the remaining balance (reguardless if I spent less). Different companies may be different. I had a friend tell me his was requiring a contractor to do the repairs but I think it was more to do with the structure.

If your mortgage company is local, go there and get sig. If not, you have to mail it to them and have them send it back.
It's a pain in the arse.

Look on the website for your mortgage company and they may have instructions on how to get the check to them to get endorsed. I was able to overnight my check to my mortgage company and I had it back a few days later.

I have penny mac for my mortgage and they have an online portal to put in the claim info then submit the check. They endorsed it and I had the check back in had within about a week. Mine was only for a roof though. I think if it's large claims, the mortgage company might do disperments.

I just had to do this for my roof check. It took about 2.5 weeks to mail and get it back signed. I think there is a different process if its over $40K. They specifically asked that when I called for instructions.

If you have Chase, the cutoff is $40k. After that, they’re going to want inspections and then release money.

I sent my first check to Standard Mortgage in NO, I did not send the others. Took too long in the mail and they made me sign it before I sent it in to them, they then mailed it back. complete bs... this was for the hailstorm last year btw.

Then people will be asking FEMA to reimburse them for Fed Ex charges.
