Not a home run hire, a few folks would have to tell us no first, but I think Napier would do well at LSU

i hope they look at all coaching options and not limit it to a top 5 list or some shite like that.
no one had saban or miles on their lists when they got hired and they were great coaches here, just that miles stayed way too long way past his abilities to coach

A minority coach will be forced on Woodward if LSU stoops that low to find a coach
Sorry, but thats just the facts. Napier wont get even so much as a returned phone call.

I will never understand the Rant’s knee-jerk aversion to Billy Napier. What he’s done at ULL is damn near miraculous. He’s got experience as a coordinator for both Dabo and Saban. He knows Louisiana recruiting like the back of his hand, unlike Fickel who has never left Ohio.
I’m not saying he should be the guy, but he definitely should be one of the names in the hat that receives serious consideration.
When hiring a coach, you usually get one of the following:
1. Long time coordinator at a major power
2. An elderly retread coach who was very successful at least once, probably over 15 years ago
3. A young up and coming head coach at a G5 school or low-tier P5
4. An experienced lieutenant of the current regime, who is either currently on the staff or left within the last 3 years, as a continuity hire
5. Experienced winning coach with toxic off-field issues.
Franklin is likely too experienced as a hc at a major program to come here, imo. It would essentially be a lateral move. You can sometimes get these kinds of candidates if they have local or school ties, but this seems unlikely.
Jimbo is in a similar boat, but he does have some ties to this school and AD, but I see little chance of him leaving A&M for a roughly equal program in the same division.
Gruden would be that classic retread hire, but like Art Briles, Hugh Freeze, and Bobby Petrino, he also has some off field issues that would make him a controversial candidate in today’s media environment. While I am not one to trust the media to hire or disqualify a coach, I understand the hesitation.
Aranda fits the mold of 1, 3, and 4, which makes him a prime suspect if Baylor continues to improve throughout the season. He’s was also at LSU recently enough to be a continuity hire.
Napier is an up and coming HC, and while he was a coordinator at Clemson and Alabama, I wouldn’t call him a “long time” coordinator like Aranda at Baylor or Pittman at Arkansas. Fickel is also an up and comer, albeit in the Midwest, where Napier’s career has largely centered around the SEC footprint.
Muschamp would be a true retread who also has some ties to the school, but not recent enough to be a continuity hire, but Gus Malzahn would be a more hilarious retread.

The only thing I can think of is PTSD from the 90’s when we hired Curly Hallman out of Southern Miss.
