Gruden didn’t get fired. He turned in his resignation. I’m guessing he didn’t want them to dig an deeper.

I'm guessing they simply gave him the opportunity to resign before having to fire him. Davis likes Gruden. No way did he want to do this.

I’d tend to agree.
He resigns now and they don’t find a way to fire him for cause and remove that lucrative contract the Raiders has given him.
Not like he was getting another NFL job anyway and this shite-cans any possible media career being resumed. Unless he gets a college job, this is the end of the line for him.

You know I see this and other stories about athletes, coaches, politicians, whoever, having emailed traced back 5, 7, 10 years. How long can emails be tracked and who keeps up with this kind stuff for that long?

Most e-mails being tracked at this point are likely ones being archived by employers for legal reasons.
If it travels through their system, they can capture it and it potentially becomes a major headache for one or more people as a result.
