I had ASI, got through a broker they were much cheaper than USAA…progressive bought them out, still only have 1000$ deductible. Got new roof and fence from Laura, paid out plus I got a few thousand back for depreciation costs

Basics = what my house is worth, appox cost of my contents, and reasonable medical payments. Yes, the basics.

I live in North Ms. and we have had Safeco for home and auto for several years now. I shopped around with the bigger companies and other locals about 3 months ago and no one could come close to matching my coverage and what I was paying. I don't qualify for USAA but have always heard great things from friends that have them.

I've had State Farm for over 20 years. Never had a problem with a claim.

Go to an insurance broker and let them shop from multiple insurance companies and find the lowest price for you.

There are no “good” insurance companies.

fricking Progressive raised my rates without notifying me, then sent us a cancellation notice 6 months later. I was livid. They swore they sent numerous emails about it, but I searched and there was absolutely no notice of the increase.

Most nationally recognized companies have good policies, but you also get what you pay for in coverage options. For homes, you want replacement cost settlement on contents and roof, but you’ll pay more because it’s above the standard coverage. Best thing you can do is shop around, get the agents to show you what is different about the quotes, and check out state resources about claims and complaints (like the TX Dept of Insurance or TX Office of Public Insurance Counsel, not sure about LA). You’re interviewing them as much as they’re selling to you.
Agents can help to figure out what you might want or need, but the price is set by the system. There are only so many ways they can tease out a lower price, so ask about discounts for jobs, education, associations, etc. Get an itemized quote and send them around. A good agent will cover the things you care about, take the time to help you understand, respond quickly when you call, help facilitate with underwriting, be honest about prices and increases, and advocate for you during claims.
I briefly owned an agency. Went back to O&G. You get what you pay for, for the most part.

are the ones that pay you when you have a claim!! The adjuster who comes out has a big deal to do with whether that happens or not.

You may not be eligible to get it, but USAA has been great.
You are going to pay out the arse for the premiums.

Horrendous advice!!
Bad Ones: Snake farm, Allstate
Really bad ones: Geovera (they sue their own insureds), Lighthouse, and UPC
Ok ones: Lloyd’s, USAA, Occidental, Access Home
There are no “best” ones.

Lloyds
Surplus lines policy. Not even in the same ball park as above.
Call and independent agent in your area.

i can't complain about Allstate, I must have had their best adjuster. From claim to payment for a new roof, I only waited 3 weeks maybe. The new roof goes on this week.
Its a total racket and cruel game. We had windstorm damage in march and as a result had 3 leaking spots in roof. Filed claim. Dealt with two separate remote adjusters and 3 different inspectors as they kept claiming installation issue from 2006! My question was if install issue why suddenly 3 leaks we didnt have before?!
Agent tells me to take my business elsewhere to see if they would pay claim. Wth?? I rejected both claims and went appraisal route. Took forever but finally got my claim paid last week. New roof going up Weds this week 7 months after I filed!! I cant get away from allsnake fast enough.
