To say there isn’t a marked difference between the defense this year and last year would be to be dishonest/wrong. He has done a good job and was a good hire.

He couldn't shut down bo nix he let him run wild on them to win the game didn't notice any adjustments in second half, I'm not sold but that's just me

Anything would like an improvement over last year

If I told you before the game Auburn would score 24 points you would most likely think we won. Same with state at 25, the over/under of the Auburn game was 56 btw.

I think “good” is a tad too strong. Decent is better and he has an opportunity to increase to good by the end of the season. I see some very concerning states, namely our opponents 3rd down % right now.

LSU's defense has been borderline good other than the UCLA game. They get pressure, they play the run well, and the busted coverages have cooled down a lot. If LSU's offense would get it the frick together this team would be 4-1 and trending upward.

It's all on Peetz at this point, if he figures it out this team can be good. Start by playing Kiner and Goodwin at RB and go from there.

Being better than the total fricking shite show that was last year’s D doesn’t make him a good hire.

So far he’s had one really, really bad game and then stabilized a bit. Much rougher waters in the coming weeks that’ll tell us more about him

It looks good compared to how awful Pelini was but relative to where LSU needs to be on defense I haven't seen anything from Jones that gets me excited about him. I'm sure he's being influenced scheme and playcalling wise by O and that's probably the reason but this defense is very vanilla and predictable. They don't switch things up and that's why by the 4th quarter they're getting gashed after the other team has made adjustments. LSU is 124th in the nation in giving up 12.5 pts per 4th quarter. LSU is giving up 426.5 yds/gm which is #89 in the country. 287.5 passing yards per game (#113) & giving up 53.03% conversion rate on 3rd dn which is #123 in the nation. None of that is winning football and isn't going to cut it. This whole regime needs to be fired except for Corey Raymond.

Daronte has improved the defense...I actually don't think Peetz is doing all that bad of a job even though he could be a little more inventive in his play calling but that comes with experience, something he does not have at the moment...

Its the damn oline that CAN NOT run block and can barely pass block to save their lives that is killing this team...

If they were just a poor run blocking team this team would be undefeated, but they are putrid and no oline coach is going to fix it with what he has to work with with what we have now...

He did shut down Bo Nix. His D-line couldn’t finish the job that they executed almost flawlessly

Rushing
12 attempts
74 yards
6.2 avg

Passing
23-44 255 yards 1 td 0int

0- sacks

Id say we didn't shut him down

Now I was impressed how we shut the rbs down, but bo nix was pulled against Georgia state and we made him look like Johnny football

Again I agree we are playing better than last year but to say this is the standard of lsu defense we should expect not even close

That he is an improvement over maybe the worst defensive product in the history of the SEC is not a recommendation.

BS!! The players were in position to stop him-they just did make the play...that's not on the coach-that is totally on the players' lack of execution!!

A high school coach could have done better than Pellini. We could have done much better than Deronte Jones.

But it is the coaches fault. They should have taught the players how to tackle better and not lose containment by staying on his outside shoulder. #8 should have been corrected the first time it happened on the sidelines but apparently he was not because it kept happening. If you look back at the 2020 film Bo Nix killed LSU scrambling in that game too. They should have been better prepared for it. Go look back at LSU’s defense vs Johnny Manziel and Lamar Jackson. Better coordinators had the team better prepared. Everything is coaching with this team. They have enough to not be 3-2 with losses to teams they should have beat.

Thank you I was getting my coffee and was about to post something very similar. We have to stop making excuses. It starts with the coaches and the same exact thing happened last year. It's only going to get worse this year.

This is why you don't experiment on so many coaches at a program like lsu, especially an oc and DC in the same freaking year

Meh, he’s an improvement over Pelini, but I wouldn’t go much further than that.

Our LB play is absolute garbage and we’re not getting off the field on 3rd downs. Tackling is still lacking too.

I think you have the bar too low if you think improvement over last year is sufficient to justify his employment.

We made a QB that is complete dogshit look like Johnny Football for the second year in a row. Let a team that had to put in TJ Finley a week earlier to beat Georgia State run up and down the field on us, in our house. Still no discipline on the edges and LB’s mostly in the wrong place at the wrong time. To say it’s improved over last year is using the lowest benchmark available. The only thing making the defense look decent is how bad the offense is.

He's done an ok job

He's super vanilla and conservative. Doesn't make adjustments.

"Muh we lead the country in sacks"

1 against MSU
0 against Auburn

Need to see more creativity in blitzing.

Darante was a third tier hire.. Woodward only gave Orgeron a two-year contract for the hire. What does that tell you about Woodward and his faith in Orgeron as the HC here?

No proven commodity was going to come here for a two year contract. That said -Durante to me looks like every bit the last choice he was. It only gets more difficult from here.
