LSU should just save their money then and let O ride it into the ground if that's the alternative.

I have more faith in Woodward than a mediocre hire like O'Brien. Leaves a lot to be desired.

Mediocre is putting it mildly.

It would be meltdown city like we’ve never seen before.

What if LSU can't get a Fickell, Urban, Petersen type of hire? I know we like to think that LSU can get whoever they want, and I certainly hope that's the case, but they have to want to come to LSU as much as LSU wants them. Maybe it's just that top assistants don't want to coach under Orgeron, I don't know. I hope that's the case and that the LSU brand isn't seen as toxic, because people gave LSU shite for rightfully canning Les, and people will bitch if Orgeron gets fired "he just won a national championship, he doesn't deserve to be fired!", hopefully wiser heads will prevail and people will speak up and support a new direction for the program. But the talking heads could throw a lot of bullshite towards LSU and bring a lot of negativity towards the program, and make it seem like LSU has unrealistic expectations.

We know that LSU fans have high expectations, but more than that, we just want LSU to have competent coaches that can adjust in-game and prepare the LSU offense and defense to a high standard, which LSU has NOT had the last two seasons. If top assistants don't want to coach under Orgeron, than O needs to go. If nobody wants to be the head coach at LSU, which seems crazy, LSU could be facing a situation where an underwhelming hire (meaning no Fickell, Urban, Petersen type hire) is what they will ultimately have to go for. There aren't a lot of elite coaches out there, but there are a lot of good ones, and a good coach can become elite under the right circumstances, which LSU can provide.

O'Brien is someone that I hated as a coach in the NFL, and he made some god awful personnel decisions as GM for the Texans, which is kind of scary considering he would be in charge of the entire program. But I will say, he did win several playoff games with some really terrible NFL quarterbacks like TJ Yates and Brock Osweiler, so he is a somewhat respectable coach as far as X's and O's is concerned. If he can recruit at a high level, he could probably do a good job of coaching them up, but O'Brien should be a fallback option and definitely not one of the top 3 choices, more like top 10-15.

I think an early list of top potential coaches would look like this

Luke Fickell
Urban Meyer
Chris Petersen
Bob Stoops
James Franklin
Dan Mullen
Matt Campbell
Mario Cristobal
Dave Aranda
Lane Kiffin
Jamey Chadwell
Billy Napier
Bill O'Brien
Mel Tucker
Hugh Freeze

I lean towards a top flight offensive coach, but a great defensive minded coach like an Aranda would be good as well. I would prefer someone who wants to win and not someone who just says all the right things and smiles for the camera. Get whoever fits the mold of always wanting to get better and never getting tired of working and recruiting, a relentless competitor.

He mentioned Kiffin, too, so why is O'Brien more likely?

And I like Matt, but he's just guessing like everyone else. He's heard names, but that's all.

Most of us Houston area alumni don't want Bill OBrien within 350,000 miles of our program. We witnessed his destruction of the Texans.

Learn from history. During a Woodward coaching search, the name(s) you hear the most are not going to be the hire.

I love how delusional some people are about coaches wanting to come here because of the talent in the area. A few names on the list that ain't coming, no matter how much you petition Woodward:
Fickell
Meyer
Stoops
Peterson
Kiffin
Mullen
Franklin
Cristobal
Guys you do not want
Bill O'Brien...PSU was happy when he left
Freeze - hookers and blow and lots of scandal because of faulty zippers
Guys who might come
Matt Campbell
Aranda
Guys who will jump and you might be sorry you made the offer:
Napier
Chadwell
