You better buy what you can right now. You will not be able to find any by November.

I ordered 2 boxes of Hornady GMX on GunBroker last week, shipped to the house for $105.

At this point, it's almost worth it to just shelve any arm that's not chambered in 223, 308, 12 guage, or 9mm, and purchase a NATO standard caliber for hunting seasons. Either that, or learn to reload.

I bought some straight off the Federal Ammo website a few months ago but it doesn’t look like they have any available now. But keep checking periodically.

I was told recently that the ammo manufacturers are so behind on their military contracts (2 years I think) that they are basically only pumping out NATO stuff right now and barely producing any other calibers, even including traditional hunting rounds like 30-06, 7mm-08, 243, 270, etc.

Once they get caught up on contracts, they will then start bulk manufacturing the other stuff again. Apparently they make one caliber at a time because they have reset all of their machines for different rounds and they aren't even really thinking about hunting rounds now, even as seasons approach.

The old-timer who bought 2 boxes of 30-06 shells every year about a week before rifle season was screwed last year and they are a pretty much screwed again this year.

I have about a half a can at the house of some old 7mm rounds that I have no use for. Should be a few hundred rounds in there. I need to make sure its not mag rounds though.

Academy always has 308/7.62x51. If you’re desperate, it’s worth it to buy a cheaper rifle in that caliber and roll with it.

If you can find it locally, that's great, but at this point it's time to pull out all the stops.

My suggestions:
1. Go to Midway, Natchez Shooters Supply, Midsouth Shooters Supply, Graf's, Powder Valley and (possibly) Widener's and search for 7-08 ammo using their "available/in stock" feature. Check w/ each of them every few hours.
2. On each of the above sites, use the "notify me when available" feature. For your sake, I hope your work filter doesn't block gun/ammo sites like mine does. I've been looking for Reloder 17 gun powder for 11 months. Got an email notification last week it was available at Midsouth, but my work wifi filter blocked me from ordering it. My first opportunity to check on the powder w/o using work wifi was 5 hours later.....It was out of stock already.

Good luck!.

Just hunt and hunt for it online. I even saw some SR primers the other day on Midway for 9 cents/primer. Ripoff, yes, but they were available. Now, they're gone.

Set up an email alert on ammoseek or something.

Good point. And continue to check for yourself. There've been situations where an automatic email notification was NOT sent to me, but I lucked up and found the product anyway.

I need to find someone to swap a couple hundred large pistol primers for a couple hundred large rifle primers. I've figured out im just not dedicated enough to find them in this climate and happen to have like 800 pistol primers.

If I were closer to you I’d trade you in a heart beat.
