i dont see a 6'3 210 physical specimen that can run and will lay the wood on this roster... I see no aggressiveness... just my 2 cents... Safety has to be an absolute Dawg...

Thoughts on Safety position
Burns just started his like 2nd game of his career. He made an int and had a couple of nice tackles. He’ll get better and had been getting better

Maybe so, against CMU he had a blown coverage that led to a uncontested touchdown'

Against UCLA he attempted to tackle the TE and missed him completely and perhaps the worst tackle attempt in recent LSU history.

2 big mistakes that led to 2 easy touchdowns

Looks like no other option at this time and room for improvement

Probably, but on 3rd and 13 you probably don't need Stingley to release the wr when you have a lb for the rb. The other safety had already picked up the TE.

that was my thought. Burns should’ve been there but Stingley could’ve made a great play and switched to take the deep guy.

Can the freshman Sage be that guy?

I'm betting that Sage will replace Burns altogether in about two to three weeks.

So you want Stingley to just change up the defensive coverage on the fly and follow the receiver into the deep zone regardless of the fact that he had a receiver to cover in the flats and a safety supposedly over the top in the deep zone?

In no means am I saying that he doesn't have room to improve. But I have seen enough flashes to believe his best football is still ahead of him.

The busted coverage was Burns fault just like it was against UCLA and he again can’t tackle in the open field and just dives at feet

Because I’ve watched them all play football and Sage Ryan is a different tier of football player than guys like Harris, Toles, Burns, etc. He’s faster, stronger, better in coverage, and a better tackler who will come down hill and stick somebody. Unlike Burns who can’t get off a block, dives at feet, and is constantly out of position, Toles who is just a step slow to everything, and Harris who has done nothing for 5 years.

Not what I’m saying. Depends on what was called on defensive but he definitely could’ve played a deeper flat and made it a tighter window

The same way I knew that Jack Bech, Deion Smith, Brian Thomas, and Malik Nabers were better than Jaray Jenkins, Trey Palmer, and Koy Moore.

Yup. He made two highly visible mistakes in two consecutive games and they scored twice.
He's clearly washed up after two games as a soph. and should have his scholarship pulled.

I’m against it.

Put your best 11 on the field. I don’t see a safety that fits in that category.

If they don’t know their assignment, put them on the bench or have them blitz. There’s no benefit to designate a player to usher a wide open receiver into the end zone.

The guy caught the ball 20 yards down field and 30 yards from Burns.

That would be an insanely deep flat and still a wide open window.

You’re probably right, just found it odd that our best defender, projected best in the country, was jumping on a 3yd out on 3rd and 13.

You find it odd that out CB was defending the zone he was supposed to be defending instead of following a receiver to a zone the safety was supposed to be defending. Amazing.

Imagine if he had not covered the flats as he was supposed to and the QB went underneath with the ball instead, thus leading to a first down that way. You’d be bitching about Stingley not covering that guy. Good lord this kid can do nothing right according to a portion of our fan base.

You’re an idiot who doesn’t know football. When 3 of the 4 DBs do one thing and one guy doesn’t, it’s usually his fault.

Stingley blew the coverage on the busted play, not Burns

Nope, they were playing zone! Sting let’s zone had a receiver in it and Stingley covered him. That was Burns zone. He will learn and get better
