Would you consider converting to Mormonism in order to regain what we have lost?

The two times I’ve been to Provo, it’s been two of the most magical evenings of my life. I mean that very seriously - it’s like a real life Disney World full of clean cut, happy, perfectly wholesome kids and large families. It’s otherworldly - these beautiful families with 4 or 5 kids going from dinner to Baskin Robins (you wouldn’t believe the lines at the BR closest to campus - it’s straight out of a 1980’s movie). Practically no crime, booming economy, most everybody is fit and successful.

Anyhow, I know that Mormonism is a batshit crazy pseudo version of Christianity, but I tell you what - if they are left alone in their little Disney World for another 50 years (it seems like they have gotten to keep their values and are mostly left unmolested by leftist overreach) while the rest of the US crumbles, I think it would be a pretty clever escape hatch to consider. Saying a few half-hearted prayers to Joseph Smith while you enjoy some of the last vestiges of vintage Western culture here in America sounds a lot better than having your daughter become a lesbian or your feminist wife turn on you and take half your net wealth.

No. It’s a cult.

Preaching a hot gospel is the only answer to this. Eliminate the pretenders and focus on the truth (the Bible, which Mormons don’t fully believe). Mormonism is just as much a lie as satanism.

If you are a new convert, they only allow you to have two really ugly, fat wives.

You're asking me if I would betray God to join a cult in order to get some temporary sense of twisted "normalcy"? No, friend. I sincerely would rather continue living through this nightmare we're in for the short term, than to sell my soul for eternity.

I mean they still believe in Jesus - their version of Jesus kind of looks like a young Brad Pitt.

Auggie that’s probably true about the converts tho

I don’t think you have to be a Mormon to live in Provo

If you view religion as a system that helps a culture survive and thrive then you're not wrong.

Look at Islam. As backwards as their system is to us, it's working for them. We're gone but the Taliban are still standing.

I wonder what the rates of marriage, divorce, child/spousal abuse, and abortion are for the major religions in the US.

Yeah I mean living as a Mormon in 2021 Provo or SLC would be similar to living as a Muslim in Dubai or Singapore. You get the best of what modern society offers but also the traditional lifestyle that your ancestors would want you to pass along to future generations.

I (and a lot of people like me) are more interested in Christianity as a vessel to protect western culture and honor our shared European heritage. And in that respect, Mormonism has shone while traditional Christianity has failed spectacularly - particularly over the last 30 years.

You can - it’s just that from what I can tell, most of the people who want to fix Christianity are frustrated white guys.

Mormonism has a ton of wholesome girls and an entire population that hasn’t bought into modern woke or attention whore culture - I’m probably personally getting too old to pull this off myself even if I were totally serious, but it’s a fun thought experiment.

What if they’re right? Not saying they are, but who knows.

Explain how Christianity isn't a cult, then. They both believe in fake shite. Mormonism isn't that much crazier than any other fairy tale religion.

I'm sure you know that a lot of people who claim to believe in Jesus don't actually know who He is, and worship a "version" of Him that is nowhere close to the Jesus of the Bible.

Very little of Mormonism focuses on even their version of Jesus.

Do tell how this is so. Your perception of failing Christianity is likely due to the watering down of traditional values that come from moral poisons like Mormonism. There are many cults that identify as "Christian", when they are, in fact, far from it. I want you to be very specific about what it is that Mormonism has supposedly done to "protect western culture" that Christianity hasn't. And, by the way, Christianity isn't about culture, it's about God's moral law. There is plenty of "western culture" that Christianity is not compatible with. That's partially why we left Europe.

Does that Mean that Christians have done a perfect job? Of course not. We're humans. It would the height of arrogance to pretend that there aren't broken down factions within the church. It's up to people, including me, as Christians, to address and fight against those issues.

Knew 1 Mormon family when I was in grade school. Seemed like they had 6-8 kids, I didn't know them very well, but one of their sons was in my grade. I thought it weird that they couldn't drink coke, or any caffeinated sodas. THAT to me, was messed up.

Of course, now I look back, sodas aren't all that good for you, even the 0 calorie ones. Not everything you want as a kid is good for you.

But no. Hard pass on the joining thing. I appreciate their dedication and all to some of their lifestyle choices. But they can have the rest.
