MILLEY IN PERIL: Bob Woodward’s latest book, Peril, has at least two blockbuster claims that could end the military career of Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley. The book, co-authored by Washington Post reporter Robert Costa, describes two problematic episodes at the end of the Trump presidency: one in which Milley appears to give an illegal order to countermand the president's authority to launch a nuclear strike, and a second in which he purportedly told his Chinese counterpart he would tip him off if President Donald Trump were to order an attack on China.

THE JAN. 8 CALL: The authors have obtained a transcript that provides new details of the call between Milley and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi two days after the assault by Trump supporters on the U.S. Capitol, in which Pelosi says the president is unhinged and dangerous. “He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy,” Pelosi tells Milley. “He’s crazy and what he did yesterday is further evidence of his craziness.”

Milley replies, “I agree with you on everything.” The book details how Milley summoned senior officers to review the procedures for launching nuclear weapons and saying he needed to be in the loop, even though he is not in the chain of command.

“I can guarantee you, you can take it to the bank that there'll be, that the nuclear triggers are secure and we're not going to allow anything crazy, illegal, immoral or unethical to happen,” he tells Pelosi on the call.

“How are you going to do that?” Pelosi says. “Going to take the football away from him or whatever it is?”

SHOULD A SINGLE PERSON BE ABLE TO TRIGGER NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON?

‘PULLING A SCHLESINGER’: The episode is portrayed as Milley — who feared Trump had gone into “serious mental decline” after losing the election — taking extraordinary steps to prevent an unstable president from launching a nuclear war, in the same way that 1974 Defense Secretary James Schlesinger ordered the military to check with him first if then embattled President Richard Nixon ordered a nuclear strike.

But whatever his motivation, Milley’s order sparked immediate calls for his removal. “General Milley has attempted to rationalize his reckless behavior by arguing that what he perceived as the military’s judgement as more stable than its civilian commander,” wrote Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio in a letter to President Joe Biden demanding Milley be fired . “It is a dangerous precedent that could be asserted at any point in the future by General Milley or others. It threatens to tear apart our nation’s longstanding principle of civilian control of the military.”

It sounds to be like Nancy Pelosi was involved in a seditious conspiracy also. and that is a felony. She should be arrested and charged.

There needs to be a serious investigation into this and just who was involved. This WAS a coup attempt plain and simple. Who was involved? What did Pence know and when did HE know it?

HERE is an opportunity to let the nation know who the Dems really are, especially if the GOP gets the gavel back in 2022. Call hearings haul some people in front of Congress and destroy Pelosi.

Liberals defense of this is disgusting. They tried to hang Trump over asking for a joint corruption investigation, but unilaterally deciding that your CIC is suddenly "insane" and breaking chain of command in the most treasonous way is somehow appropriate?

And who TF honestly believed Trump was going to start a Nuke War with China in January? Give me a fricking break. Thats completely made up!

The left will espouse the "it's wrong, but I understand why he did it" bit, but in the end, there's no way for them to capitalize on it, so he's fricked.

By capitalize, I draw reference to how the Secretary of State, etal, attempted to gaslight the public with their "evacuation" of citizens from Afghanistan, while leaving American citizens as hostages.

so either Nancy's office recorded it, Milley recorded it or the NSA recorded it. Who recorded it and sent it to Bob Woodward?

I still have a hard time believing anything Bob Woodward writes, he is a known liar. I do not have a problem with calling Milley a piece of crap but consorting with the enemy, just seems so odd for a General. I mean this could be one of if not the biggest story in 80 years. But then again I believe there have been 2 huge espionage cases since August 2020 that have gone radio silent.

If it is true that Milley coordinated with an adversary like China and would have given them warning of a strike, than that is high treason and should be punishable by death. I don't give a shite who the POTUS is even if it is this dumbass in the White House you as a General do not coordinate with an adversary and give them advance notice of a strike. It obviously would have to be proven ,but yeah that is definitely punishable by death.

I said from the get-go that IF (big IF) anything happens, Blinken will be the fall guy. He's a complete dufus and Biden can just replace him with someone even worse.

Here is what we do know about the author

1. He fabricated quotes
2. He fabricated stories about Belushi
3. He fabricated a deathbed interview with Casey
4. He manipulated words and strong-armed his editor to leave it that way

I want to see a copy of the transcript in front of Congress not something that sources say is there before I give credence to Woodward

I want also would like Milley to get his butt hauled in front of Congress and have it out in the open like Iran-Contra.

Behind the scenes: In mid-October 2020, top Pentagon officials grew concerned about intelligence they'd seen. It showed the Chinese were consuming their own intelligence that had made them concerned about the possibility of a surprise U.S. strike against China, three sources familiar with the situation tell Axios.

One of the sources said: "I think they [the Chinese] were getting bad intelligence... a combination of 'wag the dog' conspiracy thinking and bad intel from bad sources."

Then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper worried the Chinese were misreading the situation and that their misperception could lead to a conflict nobody wanted.

Esper directed his policy office to issue a backchannel message to the Chinese to reassure them the U.S. had no intention of seeking a military confrontation. The message: Don't over-read what you're seeing in Washington; we have no intention to attack; and let's keep lines of communication open.

These backchannel communications were handled a couple of levels below Esper, one of the sources said. U.S. officials involved thought the Chinese received the initial message well. Milley followed up later in the month with a call to his Chinese counterpart to reiterate the message, two of the sources confirmed.

It's unclear whether anyone at the Pentagon told President Trump or the White House what they were doing.

What's next: Those wishful plans for Milley's hearing are out the window. Questioning during the Sept. 28 hearing will likely focus more on the chairman's behind-the-scenes actions during the final days of Trump.

Members also are gunning for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over his handling of Afghanistan.

As Axios' Zachary Basu reported Tuesday, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) took the extraordinary step of threatening to subpoena Austin and other Biden officials who decline to voluntarily appear before the committee. LINK

To me more focus should be placed on the fact that he was coordinating with an enemy of the United States. The flip side of Rubio’s argument would be that the military’s judgement is less stable than Chairman China Joe Biden. Very dangerous when CJB orders the military to go door to door taking kids and firearms.

The military brings a reason to use nuclear weapons to the president. The president can’t unilaterally order a nuclear strike without a LOT of buy in from all.

What does it matter? They'll just plug in another party line flunky. Next one(s) could be worse.
