CEO has NO clue how to fix this pile of shite he caused.

Literally all of that could be fixed if his o.c. allowed him to establish a rhythm.
You guys forget that we came out and intentionally ran the ball until we had to throw in the first half and max still started 6/6.
The playcalling for this offense is the number one issue right now far and away, even more than the o line struggles. You can mask a bad o line with quick passing plays and whatnot, and you can set up the run with the pass. We just saw it two freakin years ago.

if you're going to be honest about all of that, you should at least throw in Max's issues. he can't make progressions, holds the ball too long frequently, hangs the ball in the air too long, throws the ball into the dirt, occasionally flings the ball without looking
Good points. I would also throw in deflections because of a long windup and telegraphed throws. Not good for a 6’6” guy to have so many balls deflected. He has happy feet due to the pressure (somewhat understandable) and can’t put enough on balls to get it to the receiver.

quote:Max "dink and dunk" Johnson will not win us games because he provides no playmaker abilities. If we can't run the ball and the defense is giving up tons of points, how are we supposed to keep up? We're going to have drops, we've had drop problems multiple years recently (2015 and 2018 just to mention a few), you don't need milquetoast passing on top.
We still can’t run the ball. Too many WRs drops, we have no offensive identity, the offense lacks consistency, defense still allowing big plays
We need some Matt Corral shite going on. I'll take a few turnover filled game if we are at least trying to improve the offense and beat somebody.
Central Michigan should be a competition for the start against Miss St. The team this year just ain't it, but holy crap the freshman and young guys on this squad are going to be elite next year.

Boutte, Palmer, and Bech are your weapons on offense. That's 60% of what LSU needs with the skill positions w/ a QB with 4 starts. Max played fine last night. It could be better sure but no running game and mixing in a few key drops is why the results look like they do. Jenkins ain't it at WR. His drops in the first half killed momentum. If he catches the ball they score more and put the game away a lot quicker. The sacks last night were due to 3/5 starters being out on OL. LSU has to have a playmaker at RB. TDP isn't getting it done. Maybe Emory can come back and be the answer, if not maybe one of the freshman, but they're miles behind where they need to be at RB. I think the defense made strides last night but we'll find out more when they travel to MOO U. The offense I still think can improve to be a threat if Bech gets all the meaningful reps at TE, somebody else emerges as a sure handed WR outside of Palmer and Boutte, we find a RB, and the QB run is put into the offense to help out the o-line and RB's. I realize LSU doesn't have QB depth at the moment but the run game would greatly benefit if there was a threat of the QB pulling the ball and threatening the edge. Tell him to slide or run out of bounds but we need to see more of it.

Not rocket science here. A good QB needs an aggressive and capable O/L to protect him. Give him enough time to check off his receivers. Max Johnson has a quick and accurate delivery, but without those precious nanoseconds to do that he's forced to abandon the pocket, turn his attention from delivery to escaping the clutches of D/L determined to bury his head in the dirt. Oh, and one more thing......those receivers have to make that clutch catch.
Having said that hopefully the O/L will gell and provide that critical protection.
I saw some improvement. McNeese played a great game. But LSU needs to make a marked improvement if they hope to compete in that brutal SEC schedule.
I try to be an optimist in all things. But I have my concerns.

He doesn’t have legs
Disagree. He has plenty of speed and quickness to run this offense. His pocket awareness isn’t that of a 5th year transfer who was mentored under Day and Urban.
Just look at the running game. They mixed up all kinds of plays last night that they didn’t do versus UCLA and it still didn’t work. It wasn’t from a lack of trying. The offensive line is OFFENSIVE to watch.

No shite. But Joe wouldn’t have QBd this team to a 4-8 record, which is where it appears we’re headed.

Blaming the whole shitshow on Max is plain stupid. Is anybody actually doing that, though? He just doesn’t possess the skill set to get this shitshow to win more games than it should. He has a very, very low, ceiling. Can win, but needs a lot of good things around him to do it. We don’t have those things.

I don't think too many people, if any, are saying that Johnson is THE problem. But he doesn't appear to be the answer, at least at this point, at THE most important position. We fully understand that no QB can fix all of the other issues with the team, but this happens to be a position where we have a possibility of improving with Nussmeier, and eventually Brennan when he comes back, whereas some people thought Max was the best QB on the roster coming into the season.
We'll see how Nussmeier does going forward, if they give him more opportunities, but he certainly had a better presence about him last night than what we've seen from Max these first two games. It just so happened that the receivers dropped even more passes for him.

When you're QB is too scared to throw the ball further than 10 yards, and even then has trouble making accurate throws, that becomes a huge problem for running the ball.
quote:
we have no offensive identity, the offense lacks consistency
Again, when a QB doesn't throw deep passes, that's basically a third of an offensive identity, which then affects the other parts of the offense. You can't have consistency when you have a QB making the plays he is making.
So yes, Max is a HUGE part of the problem

Just like TJ was better and many of us thought Max was going to be better and many still believe Brennan is better.
There's only one constant there, shitty o line, shitty run game, shitty head coach. Ok so that's 3 but all of them are a direct reflection of the shitty head coach

He is part of the problem. His accuracy has just been so-so. Not talking about complete misses, but the ones that are a little high or behind that are caught, but take away yards-after-catch opportunities.
That being said, it’s something he and the receivers can work on and improve. And the coaches need to pick up they tempo a bit; give the entire offense a chance to get into a rhythm.

If you want the offense to improve, you need a playmaker. Max isn't.
Play calling, OL, WR's catching and not dropping.
As much as we would all like to point to one thing, it is a Team sport.
Max will look as good or as bad as the other parts of the team will allow him to be.
I'm not ready to write the kid off just yet.
Call the plays, stop this prairie dog offense, design the system to let him succeed, have a run game....
All things that would help.

Max's biggest issue right now is he's clearly uncomfortable.
I'm sure most of that is because he has no faith in his Oline, BUT even when they are giving him time he is still panicking. I'm sure getting physically abused last week has alot to do with that.
Nussmeier obviously hasn't had to go through that yet which is why he's 100% more confident.
I want to see Nussmeier get meaningful snaps next week.

This is not the question and it’s odd an way to frame it.
Is Nuss better/are we better with Nuss? That’s it.
“Not actively being a problem” is not a reason to do something

No Max is not the problem. And those wanting Nuss to start, check the stats. Coaching and the o line is the problem. Y’all keep making comparisons to Burrow, as if replace max with burrow and we’re good. That’s bull shite. We had an EXCELLENT offensive staff in 2019. Don’t revise history just cuz Ed O has shown his colors. Ensminger was a pretty damn good play caller and he and Brady were dynamic together. Let’s not forget the job Brady did coaching up the receivers. The summer of 10,000 catches. Let’s also not forget how much credit Big D Joe gave to analyst Jorge Munoz. This coaching staff can’t come close.
But shite, maybe if we had a decent o line, we’re not having this conversation.
