I had the day off and ordinarily would sleep late but woke up early and turned on the TV for some reason. The first tower was burning and they were speculating about an accident. Then the second plane hit and that was that.

I was dating a girl from Shreveport whose father was a DC lobbyist. He was driving in to work and saw the smoke from the Pentagon. He was pretty well connected so I heard a lot of the rumors floating around in the aftermath. One thing they were scared of is AQ getting hold of bootleg Russian suitcase nukes.

I spent the next several weeks trying to get back in, but no dice. My buddy, a former 2/75 Battboy, had better luck. He was offered a slot in SFAS off the street and graduated the Q Course at 37.

Roommate woke me up, and said “man you gotta see this”. My response was “this better be good”. Couldn’t believe what I saw. The rest is history.

In my living room, turned on the news and saw the first tower had been hit. Thought it was an accident at first then the second plane hit. Watched it all unfold sitting in my underwear eating breakfast.

9th Grade history class, We spent the whole day glued the tv set all day long. It was pretty surreal watching the buildings fall.

Getting off the bus and turning the corner to quiet cul de sac, the street was lined with cars, my driveway was full of foreign vehicles, along with my Dads, who never came home before 6pm. I stopped, and knew right then and there something was up.

Walking to class at LSU. About to cross Nicholson extension. It was a dry, clear, sunny morning. I was on my way to Allen Hall. I will never forget that crisp morning.

Was in the second grade. I remember getting off the bus and seeing my parents and grandma in the living room in complete shock and I didn't realize what had happened.

RAF Lakenheath in England. First Sergeant called us in for a briefing that you had to have security clearance to be in before the coverage broke over there. That was strange at the time and couldn't believe what I was hearing!

8th grade. Walked into my 2nd period history class early to talk about the Monday night football game and the teacher had the tv on. Said there was a plane to hit one of the towers. Maybe 45 seconds later the coverage showed the 2nd plane hitting. We looked at each other in shock and I asked him if that really happened. He just nodded his head.

Rest of the class was coming into the room and started to realize what was going on. School was over that day. Everyone just stayed in whatever classroom they were in and watched the news.

English 1001 at LSU, professor was from New York and just didn’t show up. Kids started asking if we saw/heard what was going on. I went to the union and found every tv turned to the coverage and watched with a bunch of people I didn’t know for a few hours.

8th grade math class. We saw the second plane hit live and I’ll never forget the chilling feeling (even being a young teenager) that it was an attack and not an accident.

Walked into the break room for a coffee refresh and noticed several people huddled around the TV, which was unheard of in our office building. Asked what was going on and someone mentioned that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center so I assumed it was a terrible accident but probably a small Cessna or something and went about my day so I wouldn’t get called out for hanging out in there. I was pretty young in my career so I thought that stuff mattered still… A few minutes later my wife called and was practically in tears describing what happened and I kinda laughed at her for over reacting. Then there were people crying and walking around like zombies, it was surreal. Called my wife back to apologize and she was almost begging me to come home. Her classes were canceled so she assumed we’d have the day off. I think I ended up going home for lunch and staying home.

Remember figuring out that my boss and his boss were both in NY at the time for an IBM conference to get some award for y2k solutions we had developed. They ended up having to rent a car to drive back to BR.

High school.. I was late that day because I couldn’t figure out what to wear (dumb HS crap)… I landed on a shirt with the skyline of NYC including the towers. A couple hours later someone asked me “how did you know?” And I didn’t know what they meant until I realized what was on my shirt. It was so eerie. We watched the news all day. Surreal.

Distinctly remember every cable channel on TV airing the news feed from the parent company. Nickelodeon and MTV showed CBS. Disney Channel showed ABC news. And TBS and TNT showed CNN.

I remember this as well. Damn near every single channel was showing the news. An incredible day.

I was in the 7th grade. I had a friend mention before class that a plane hit the tower but I didn’t think anything of it. I had a test 1st and 2nd period but my 3rd period religion teacher had the news on in class and that was the 1st time I saw what was happening. By that time both towers had collapsed but I was in complete shock of what was taking place

I'm not proud of it, but I was actually in jail. I remember watching the 2nd plane hit live on TV. Glad I finally got my shite together & put that part of my life behind me.
