I said it on Saturday night, but in MANY ways the game vs. UCLA felt like the 2016 game in Green Bay vs. Wisconsin. It the opening game of the season, at an historic venue, against a name brand opponent, for which MANY LSU fans were excited to attend. And MANY spent several thousand dollars to attend.
More importantly, it was the first game coming off of a very disappointing season the year before (remember, Miles got carried off the field in his "final game at LSU" in 2015). In 2021, as was the case ahead of the 2016 season, LSU was returning a lot of key personnel. There was optimism that even though the prior year was a disappointment, this season was going to be better. And that optimism came from the fact the HC SAID all of the right things. He recognized the issues that caused the prior season's disappointment. He was absolutely going to change the approach that simply didn't work last year. And like Pate said, the LSU fanbase, remembering the "good times", gave the HC the benefit of the doubt. Then the first game happened......
and it became ABUNDANTLY CLEAR the HC did NOTHING to change his approach. In fact, it appeared he became even more obstinate. So it's very much is like the scorned spouse. The fans, cautiously but optimistically, gave Ed a second chance and he IMMEDIATELY "wronged" the fanbase again. Just like with Miles THAT, is how the sentiment towards the HC turned so abruptly. And maybe the only thing worse than a scorned lover is one who gave you a second chance only to be quickly hurt and disrespected once more. That turns their attituded from sadness and heartbreak to anger and vindictiveness.

Every LSU fan should watch. Spot on.
They play like they did at UCLA the rest of the way they'll beat the three cupcakes and maybe a couple of SEC teams. O gone, big buyout and more trash behavior to his heart's content.

You are spot on. I’d argue the only difference between 2016 and 2021 is that CLM refused to make the necessary changes and I think O just doesn’t know how to make the necessary changes.
Basically I’m saying CLM was stubborn, O would like to make the changes we all see need it be made but is clueless as to how to accomplish it.
I think it’s obvious that the main flaw in the CEO approach that O sold when hired is that O has no idea what does and doesn’t make a good coordinator. You can’t rely on the “best coordinators” if you can’t identify who those guys are.

Amen to what Josh Pate said about this situation at LSU Football.
Low Class is not going to be tolerated. Smarmy cannot be the ugly frog-face of our program.
Taking ownership of dereliction-of-duty will not prevent getting fired with a swift kick in Da Azz!!!

I don’t think it’s simply just O not being able to do it. He’s stubborn in his own way because he refuses to learn and refuses to do it himself.
He wanted his moment where he could prove all of the doubters wrong. He wanted to prove wrong all the people that hurled insults at him after he left LSU as a freshman.
He got his moment on the back of a few competent coaches and one of the greatest QBs ever in college football. And when he did have his moment, he sat on his laurels. That was enough for him. He has no desire to be great. All he wanted to do was be vindicated. It’s pure arrogance. And now that he’s sat on his hands and let the program run out of control; he’s going to go back to being hated. It’s just in his nature. He’s the scorpion on the back of the frog.

Woodward should not be hesitant in firing him atvthe end of the season. The longer O stays on, the worse its going to be. The Miss St game will dictate that. LSU loses, he's gone.

When 80% of the fanbase are pulling for McNeese to beat you, you know there's a problem.

I think he lucked into having Brady teach his staff a class and Burrow transferring in. Basically I think he never knew what to do, he just lucked out and now that those guys are gone we see what he’s really like as a coach.
I don’t think he stopped trying or is resting on laurels, I think he walked arse backwards into a great team and has no idea how or why that team was so great and can’t replicate it.

This x 1000. Miles was hardheaded and stubborn and would not make changes. Ed just is clueless. We also have a very savy fan base that’s screaming out the obvious, playing Jones, tempo, more diverse offensive scheme etc. He will try to do those things this weak against an inferior opponent but why didn’t he do it week one or at least make half time adjustments????

I would add to complete that metaphor: Orgeron has been a lifetime cheater/loser, before pledging that he was a "changed man" when he was hired, and again after last year. He starts 2021 by proving nothing has changed.

Yep, don't trust a damn thing he says anymore.

Or if they don't want to work for you.

I don't know why anyone on here expected some great comeback season. Because of the house cleaning from last year, O had to "rebuild" for the second year in a row, with walmart brand coordinators. Nobody was beating down the door to come to LSU. The writing was on the wall for this season. Still, some on here just went along with the narrative that LSU will be good regardless of what coaches and players you put on the field. Now, the board is on fire with all these shocked "fans" acting like O banged their wives.
The fact is, if you were realistic with your expectations, Saturday night would have hurt a little, but it wouldn't have wrecked your whole existances. Josh Pate said all offseason that LSU was the biggest unknown in college football and he wasn't wrong, but now we know.
