Can one get reimbursed for a stolen generator from homedepot/lowes? I shouldn't be not reimbursed because i chose to take advantage of a walk out the door policy by the big box stores.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for fema threads to follow. Insurance called today and wrote my house off as a total loss from the storm damage. I applied for disaster assistance through FEMA and they say they are sending someone out to the property so my application is still pending.

Was wondering the same thing about income limits and what kind of payouts someone could expect if your house is totally destroyed, as it’s stated on my FEMA application.

Mandeville, extremely massive oak tree uprooted and fell through like a buzz saw through my raised house. I’ve never even filed a claim in my life but the insurance claims adjuster I’ve been staying in touch with has seemed really helpful. I believe I’m going to get full coverage but says they need to send out a contractor first to just basically confirm for them.

Hoping everything continues to go smoothly. Cost $8500 to remove that tree off my house and apparently that was a deal. Tree really was massive and it took them an entire day with power equipment and cranes.

they said an extra 5% on top of dwelling coverage can be used to go towards debri removal from property. Hopefully that means the tree. They’ve already sent a check to reimburse me for that.

So looks like FEMA is deferring lodging reimbursement to HO insurance, which may not cover under Loss of Use if no actual damage only utility outage, or if it does, would have a deductible that exceeds the claim.

Anyone else getting this?

You should discuss the value of the tree itself with your adjuster. I was paid for the tree as well as the cost of removal in a previous storm. A massive oak is very valuable and affects property value.

WTF does that mean. I registered, there was no mention of generators or chain saws. But I thought that they would send me a page I could use. NOPE. So how do I appeal??.. or should I just copy everything and send a letter as mentioned earlier?

Someone already posted in this thread. Log in, there's an upload section. When you click that there's an area for chaisnaw and generator receipt.

See below for FEMA's response to my question to them about generator reimbursements for generators purchased solely due to power outage caused by hurricane Ida.

Thank you for contacting FEMA and giving us the opportunity to assist you.???

The medical condition and the power outage verification documents have been waived for disaster #4611. If you had to purchase a generator due to power outages or a chainsaw to remove downed trees, please send a copy of the proof-of-purchase or rental receipts for the generator/chainsaw.

You may fax your documents to 1-800-827-8112, upload to your online account, or physically mail correspondence to:

FEMA - Individuals & Households Program
National Processing Service Center
P.O. Box 10055
Hyattsville, MD 20782-8055

Please write your name, last?four digits of your social security number, disaster number and registration number on your receipts and keep a copy for your records. We do not have a program to assist with fuel cost reimbursement.

Sincerely,

Beth #51518

Hadnt thought of that. Do you know what coverage that would fallen under?

For instance I have dwelling, contents, loss of use and "other structures" coverage on my homeowners.

Im guessing the oak tree would fall under other structures because Ive been reading through my policy to make sure I dont miss anything and know the tree wouldnt be covered under dwelling or loss of use.

I called today, took 45 minutes, to be told by a foreign lady (#5555) that saws and generators may not be reimbursed if you have insurance (homeowners or flood). Even the medical exception for the generator still applied and has not been waived.
Also an inspection of the property would be required.

This is just what I was told. A little bit opposite to what’s above.

Has anyone on here, or anyone you know personally, received the $800 reimbursement for a generator without proving a medical need?
