I’ve got 3 leaning 90 ft pines that I’d like taken down by an arborist. Prices I’ve heard from friends and neighbors who’ve had it done are all over the place.

Tree work has gotten astronomically expensive.

A friend's neighbor had a full grown oak by their house that was dying. Said the estimate came in at $18,000.

I got lucky one day.. A tree contractor company for Duke Power here in NC was doing work on my road, and we wanted to get rid of one of the maple trees in our front yard that was sort of close to the lines...

Supervisor said no problem and took it down. Charged it to Duke Power.

Maybe that is good info for you guys. Keep a look out for those crews and ask. Could get some work done for free.

I just got quoted $2000 to cut/haul off a small 2 story water oak tree with a diameter of 3 1/2 feet.

I’m getting another quote on the tree today and hoping it comes in less.

Can they be dropped or do they need to be topped?

It depends if they are licensed and bonded. If so, they are gonna cost more. Your next door friend Johnny could cut it for a 12 pack and some grilled steaks, but he might fall the trees on your house and then you have real problems. Tree cutters are very high in demand after IDA. Reserve one tomorrow and they will be there in about 3 weeks.... depending on the weather.
