I know it is pretty bad but the thing that is unacceptable for me is the 4yds before contact for opponents RBs.. I didn't even know that was a "stat" but its pretty damning.

What's the timespan in the 4 yards before contact? Last year and this year? His whole tenure, etc?

Yea I remember the 2019 Ole Miss game when the defense gave up 614 yards...the howls out of the Rant calling out Aranda were deafening.

From the time the ball is snapped.. Zach Charbonnet was 4 yards up field before a tiger even put their hand on him. They mentioned this near the end of the game and also said that last year LSU's defense was avg. ~2.5yds for the same stat.

O himself calls the offensive system he wants the Joe Brady system. Ensminger’s name isn’t mentioned.

I don’t think he looked for too many.

Freeman passed but was close. Took a good job offer at Notre Damemin the area he wants to live.

Then we went to Os protege Nielson. And when that didn’t work he stayed in the NFL assistant pipeline and went with Jones.

Bob Shoop is a defensive analyst at Miami right now, and he had some monster defenses at Penn St and Miss St. If you give him the talent he can coach it.

We hired Bo without even looking at anyone.

Ducking Kendal Briles clearly doesn’t care who he works for and we didn’t look at him. We hired two guys Joe Brady probably half asses recommended.

Jones was O’s third choice which doesn’t mean every DC passed. It means he got to Jones as a 3rd choice.

I mean It’s still bad, but it’s not that coordinators don’t want to come here at all, it’s that O is an idiot.

I think the MSU DC was interviewed and there were others who were contacted. Jones's only DC experience was at a very small D2 school and was a GA after that. You throw 1.3M at a guy who won't get DC job elsewhere to be the DC at LSU he will certainly say yes.

LSU's DC hires for the last two decades were Muschamp, Pelini, Chavis, Steele and Aranda. You would expect LSU can hire a successful DC at P5 level.

Sounds like Coach O needs elite assistant and players to be successful.

Do. Not. Want.

To hire a proven coordinator, there has to be interest from both sides. We really overestimated the idea that proven coordinators would want to work under Orgeron.

I dont Think we looked too he’s after the first two candidates.

I think O wanted Jones. He had success hiring Brady form the NFL and he thinks he’s smart.

It’s not insane to hire a a defensive assistant as DC. The NFL does it, other P5 schools do it. And he was an assistant for Minnesota that has a solid system (when they’re DEs aren’t all injured)

Aranda was awe-inspiring, but so was Emsminger.
really?

Because in 2018, Ensminger had Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Helaire, and most, if not all, of the 2019 OL.

And E's 2018 offense was pedestrian.

Only when Brady came here did the offense explode, with the same talent.

Many coordinators get their head coaching gig by working under or learning from a great head coach.

Coordinators suck it up and go work for saban for a couple years. Learn from him and his system, and they move on.

What would a stint under O do for them for personal development?
It's a sink or float job. Why would a good coordinator take that risk?
