A quick Readers Digest status:
- My nephew committed suicide Aug 12
- His wife and five (5) children aged 3 - 12 live in Laplace
- Their ground floor apartment flooded - they escaped with a few clothes and their car
- They evacuated to Huntsville, AL where we have several relatives/family members
- The wife/widow contacted FEMA - they advised her that she had to return to Laplace in order to file a claim for emergency assistance
- That is NOT a feasible solution due to the children and the logistics of where would she stay
- The Huntsville relatives/family is clothing and feeding them so no one is hungry or suffering

What the hell FEMA? Any/all constructive advice is much appreciated.

If she is trying to live a decent life and be a productive citizen, FEMA will tell her to kick rocks. If she is a dreg with multiple felonies and has never had a job, FEMA will give her a massive check.

First step should be filing at Disasterassistance.gov. She can do that from anywhere.

Holy shite what a tough time for them. Maybe they can use this a s a new start and stay in Huntsville. That’s brutal for that mom and kids.

So called FEMA to talk about some stuff,( btw it took 87minutes before I got someone) because one I never got the $500.00 plus at the time of the application I didn’t know if my house had damage so I put unknown… well found out I got 2 holes in my roof that is 11 months old (months not years) from branches falling out a tree… called my insurance company, went through the proper Chains first and was told the repairs needed to my roof, would not be more than my hurricane deductible at this point called FEMA to submit that paper work, along with anything else they needed talked to the lady (who was nice I can’t deny that) I submitted everything and she told me next I have to apply for a low interest SBA loan. At which point if I get denied the SBA loan then and only then would FEMA be able to assist me… so I asked the lady so what I am gathering is if I make decent money and have a good credit score FEMA will not help more than loan me money with a low interest rate… the lady then said ummm yup that’s how they are doing it now…so pretty much FEMA is only willing to help ghetto’s and Hoods and give to the people who drain the community (sounds a lot like the Democratic Party in a whole)

Oh and I didn’t get the $500.00 because when I did the application I didn’t meet the certain criteria but she couldn’t tell me what it was

Has she done this?

If her apartment is unlivable she should qualify for the FEMA’s Transitional Shelter Assistance program. According to the press release FEMA will pay, may be a reimbursement, for hotels in 10 states including Alabama.

God bless your nephew's family. I am sorry for his wife and five young children to be without their father. Mental illness and depression need to be taken more seriously in this country.
