I don't remember seeing us in a true 4-3 alignment. Seems like we were in a 4-2-5 most of the night. IMO this is a terrible defensive scheme that leaves just 2 linebackers covering the whole field. It especially exposes weak linebackers that don't have the instinct or strength to go after the ball.

We are not going to see an improvement on defense for the rest of the season and it may not be all on the new defensive coaches.

Not really. You typically have an oversized safety playing a hybrid LB spot. It's a pretty decent scheme actually but Jacoby Stevens ain't walking through the door.

Your opinion on the 4-2-5 is ill-informed

I guess I should have said for LSU.

We have weak linebackers and safeties.

This

Because old school football people who don’t understand schemes still think everything is a traditional base 4-3, 5-3, or 3-4
Those two LBs typically only have a couple of responsibilities, that’s how bad the safety and LB play was. The safeties were all clueless on assignment or just got manhandled. Which in turn made the LBs look even worse

The scheme doesn't matter... you don't have any LBs or Ss that are going to make a hard tackle in the gap anyway.

Unless they find some LB/Ss which aren't the ones that have been there forever i.e. Baskerville, Clark, Harris, etc. than they better find some... no it probably won't get better.

Have you seen any of these guys over the last 3-4 years make a hard one on one tackle head on against a RB in the gap? The answer is no.

Go look at old Safety tapes like Reid, Landry, Jones, Clark, Delpit, Adams, etc. those guys don't exist on this team.

There are no hard tacklers at all, grabbers.

Seems like mike Jones would be a perfect fit, but despite us 2nd round nfl draft grade he either sucks or won’t do anything but play inside and become an UDFA after the year.

We had perfect LB/S hybrid guys in Stevens and Cox last year and Orgeron couldn’t figure out how to utilize them. I’m not surprised he’s stuck on making Jones a MLB.

Find me one guy on this team outside of the 2-man DL front that actually tackle for a living.

They simply don't exist on this team... not one of these guys actually will tackle in the mid-section with their shoulder in the guy's gut.

Stevens was a great tackler, there just isn't any of these guys you see that tackle.... Baskerville, Clark, Harris, Lewis, etc. ... never seen these guys actually jack someone up.

They don’t teach tackling like this anymore.

They do at Alabama.

If you are LB or S, you're going to have to fill the hole and take on someone going downhill at you... that's the game.

If you can't stop that... you lose.

UCLA won the game by playing Les Miles football.

The coaching staff is going to have to do something drastic to change this defense and I just don't see them doing it. This is CEO's toss dive and will likely get him fired.

I agree with you, just saying that tackling technique isn’t taught at the youth/high school level. Much more hawk style tackling or near shoulder-near hip stuff.

Try outs, who the frick can tackle.

Heck, let Bech try out Safety, however wants to hit someone... those cats don't want to hit anyone. Its not just one year, were talking 3-4 years. Harris I don't think I've really seen him stick it to anyone.

Than you have Safeties like Delpit or Adams or Reid, shite they would have 3 or 4 sticks in a game.

Gotacha.

They need to find 3 or 4 guys to put back there, I mean the most aggressive tackler they have back there is probably Ricks playing CB... and what is he 190?

Our safeties literally made zero plays I. The game
Never heard Wards name and Burns was ridiculously bad when he was in there
This was the biggest surprise to me but I was obviously just hoping we were going to be better. Is Ryan that bad he can't beat out those guys and Harris....that's really weak
Dline was supposed to be as good as there is in college football and they weren't even as good as a less than average pac 12 team
I am so tired of the overhype of these players
If the recruiting lists are correct then LSU has the worst coaching staff in America

They mentioned him after one of their big RBs coldcocked him and knocked him out of the game.

I remember watching Pig Cage's highlight reel when he signed on and noticing what a great tackler he was. Why don't we ever hear his name?

That explains why Toles was second on the team in tackles.
