I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to pay $20 a day to park at the airport. Can I just park at one of the airport hotels and catch an Uber or are they surely aware people do this and have a way to protect against it?

Probably. The hotels usually give you a ticket to put in the window of your car to show that you are staying there.

Just pay the fee and avoid the stress.

depends on the hotel, many of them offer you parking during your trip if you stay the night there

are you staying at the hotel?

all the hotels around the airport will give you parking passes and have shuttles to and from the airport

some of their parking fees are less than the airport, especially if you stay a night

I have a tough time believing Bush International doesn’t have some kind of remote or economy option around $10.

Do you have a friend in Houston that will allow you to park your car at their house for a few days?

This, most large airports have several of these options available.

I've done what the OP is describing, and I think you can get away with it for 2-4 days, but I wouldn't go beyond that.

If it was longer, I'd offer a local small business owner, say, $50 to let me park for ~10 days.

Which lot? I saw some third parties but have never used them and didn’t want to get scammed or anything or park somewhere absurd necessarily. I am very unfamiliar with Houston and the airport. I’ve only really connected through there. I’ll do some more research now that I’ve definitely moved my flights there.

It's literally 7 dollars/day right by where you are.

You should get towed

Bro, The Parking Spot at JFK is like $6 uncovered, $9 covered

There are approximately a million offsite parking spots at IAH. Not like MSY where the options are a little more slim

As stated just above, the Eco-Park on JFK. Plenty of parking and busses.
