Heard an amazing stat on the radio this morning

Winston had two TD passes with air time of 40 yds in the first quarter.
The Saints had two the entire 2019 and 2020 season.

You are going to get the good and the bad with him. Yesterday, he played as close to a perfect game as he could. He was decisive, his feet looked good, and he made every read correctly. Both of his TDs were a thing of beauty. Since he is a threat to take the top off the D, Kamara is gonna feast with Jameis.

Qbs with 7 years in the league don’t change overnight

Jameis is not a game manager, he is a gun slinger. You are not asking him to change his game, just take fewer risks. Everyone is fixated on his 30 - 30 season, but he is closer to a 28-17 type QB. With a weapon like Kamara, it is not a reach to say he could have a 32-14 type season by simply focusing more on the short routes then the home runs.

Not to mention what gets lost is the horrible line he played with and the numerous coordinators and constant change to the offense who is going to be consistent with that kind of inconsistency.

Do you have a question?

I think you mean “air yards”
Measuring time in yards would be…odd

I'm sure you know what he means. "Air time" connotes minutes and seconds, not a distance. Ftr, I'm fine with how you jacked it up...lol.

I obviously knew what he meant.
It was pure sarcasm!

What a ridiculous statement. It hasn’t exactly been overnight, but besides, what’s your point? Yes he turns the ball over, but he did better with that last night. Nobody expects him to be Brees but he gets obviously has a different skill set, refer to the stat in the OP.
I expect Jamies to continue being erratic but that stat also fits his MO.

He also threw the ball 630 times that season, as Tampa was 27th in the league in rushing at 3.7 YPC. The saints averaged 4.6 YPC last year and attempted 522 passes.
He averages 28 TD/20 INT per season with a 3.4% INT rate. I think that will be lower this season because of the run game we have. Before his 30-30 season his career average was 3%. Let's say he attempts 555 passes this season (17 game season) - he would throw 17 INTs (16.6 but round up). 17 isn't awful, would be 1 INT per game, but i think with Sean and the run game it will be even lower than his career average. I agree with seeing a potential 32-14 season.

Yup.
Thank God he's going on his second year with the Saints.

You can control JWs gun slinger approach with the play calling. The man has alot of talent and will be successful
in NO as long as Sean Payton is calling plays.

except for Tannehill
I’ll do you one better, Rich Gannon became a perennial all pro & NFL MVP after 11 years in the league of being a career 2nd/3rd string journeyman. Anything is possible.

Good catch. I'm not a football guy pun intended.

It's been 2 years since he started a game before this one. We aren't talking "overnight"

Ryan Tannehill? Rich Gannon? Even Steve Young didn’t get his first pro bowl season until his 6th year (7th as a pro because of the USFL). Winston will probably never be a consistently elite QB but he can at least be decent if he can cut down the turnovers some.
