Left. Missed it. Came back. Ready to leave again.

I suspect when I leave again, it will be for good, though it may take a few more years for me to be able to leave (parents in their 70s and a kid still in school). I will not miss it because the politics and the natural disasters of Louisiana have finally overriden the enjoyment I had for living here.

I'm actually moving back to my hometown this week. My wife and I have been out here in SD for almost a decade now, we love it here but now that we have a daughter we though it would be best to get her closer to the rest of her family that love her so much.

I'm not 100% happy about going back home but I know it is for the best, should I check in after a few months after I've lived by the rest of you heathens?

Born and raised in Alexandria.

Left a few times and went back. Finally got out for good around 2017. It's really amazing when you find a place to call home that you like. I don't even think of Alec as home anymore. We are going to have to leave Boise eventually because it's too damn expensive, but I think I will finally know what it feels like to have to leave home. I never felt it leaving my hometown.

I'll never live there again.

Were you one of those people who, while growing up, dreamed about leaving your hometown when you had the chance and starting up your life somewhere else?

100% I wanted to get out ASAP, but when it came time for college, I didn't get the scholarship offers I hoped for and balked at the few out of state offers I did get. I ended up going to school less than 40 minutes from where I grew up because that was the best school I could afford outside of the military.

While in college, I met a girl who was deeply rooted here and wanted to stay in Louisiana forever. I married that girl and put down deep roots. She quickly divorced me and took what little I had. I'm now basically trapped here with no career prospects outside of the state. At least I'm still friends with most of my close friends that I grew up with, and still live within an hour of where I grew up.

I left my hometown after high school and have no desire to go back. I used to visit friends and relatives on leave, but it's been over a dozen years now since I've been back there.

I’ve seen enough of the rest of the world to know it’s shite. Which is why I came back.

Glamorous city life is built on illusion.

Born in Lafayette, moved to Grant Parish when I was five. There's nothing there.
Now live in Farmerville. There's not a lot to do in this town. Drive down to the lake and turn back around.

My wife and I moved away right after graduation. Now that we have kids, we're thinking about moving back, and decided it wasn't really that bad.

Was born in St. Louis but raised in Shreveport since I was 4 years old.
Love my Tigers above all. Like Louisiana, love NOLA.

But Shreveport is an absolute shithole.
Moved away to the mountains and I feel like I got a transfer from Hell to Heaven.
Never going back.

I moved away, then over the years I’ve gotten back to the same state and live about 45 minutes from my home town, plenty close enough!

Moved with no intention of returning.

My wife intended to return.

We returned.

MT or northern-most Georgia on Carolina borders is where I’d love to build my retirement bunker, so-to-speak.

Left Baton Rouge to go chase oil & gas, was all over Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota. Got tired of being on the road moved to Texas - now I miss being on the road and all the friends I made along the way. Probably will go back to that life sooner than later.
