Go. Can rank by your favorite, or which you think are the best made overall(not the same thing necessarily ) either works. No sci fi or comedy.

My favorite:
1. Full Metal Jacket
2. The Patriot - No clue why but I absolutely love this movie.
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Last of the Mohicans
5. Brave heart
6. Platoon
7. A Thin Red Line
8. Hacksaw Ridge
9. The Deer Hunter
10. Apocalypse Now

Feel like I’m missing some but oh well. These came to mind.

The Patriot is the GOAT. The portrayal of that time period is as realistic as you’ll see in film or TV

It’s no Barry Lyndon.

The only movie on your list that I've never seen. Guess I'll have to check it out soon.

One dark horse movie about Vietnam I rarely see on any list and I'd put in my Top 10 (because other less critical war movies of its type at that time) - "The Boys in Company C" . I see it rarely mentioned (if not all) and get any love on here. It stars the same infamous drill Seargent from "Full Metal Jacket". Maybe because I saw it at such a young age (yes I'm old) and influenced my opinions of future similar type movie viewings over the years. Anyhow...

ETA: Thanks Gatorbait2008 - you and I must have been typing our post at the same time, lol.

How dare me, thanks, one of the best movies of its genre I have ever seen- of course "Blackhawk Down". It may be labeled as less about a "war", but more of a battle against terrorism.

ETA: - Then again, one has to admit that the battle against terrorism is an "everlasting war" which includes many ongoing battles. I agree with you that this movie deserves its place there.

I just edited my post. Apparently you submitted yours first as I was typing mine - I was unaware you had posted about the movie.

The Russians really took their anger out on the Germans in this WWII movie. Pure visceral. Its not even a war movie but a horror movie.

Its acclaimed and controversial but filmmaking-wise a masterpiece.

I feel there are movies that take place in war zones and then there are what you'd classify as "War Movies".

Apocolypse Now is a psychadelic film about man's self destruction that takes place in Vietnam/Cambodia. It's also probably one of the 5 best films ever made.

The Deer Hunter I don't even really consider a war movie, but it's maybe my favorite film.

For traditional war movies, always felt A Bridge Too Far was the best.

For newer movies, I think 13 Hours is phenomenal and one of the most rewatchable movies of its kind.
