See any small pink flowers associated with it - if so Doveweed - a warm season annual weed whose seeds don’t germinate until soil temps rise to 70 F +. Celsius will take care of it as a post-emergent (and carpetgrass too if I’m wrong on the ID). You’ll need a something like Specticle as a pre-emergent applied in late April/early May, and again in mid-July/early August to curtail seed germination - Prodiamine and Dimension pre-emergents won’t control it.

I’m leaning towards well maintained smooth crabgrass. 70% smooth crabgrass and 30% doveweed.

It is but as dry as it’s been lately it can lose that sheen, that’s why I asked about small pink/purplish flowers - the flowers are a dead giveaway for ID from a photo. .

think I see some small dried up brown flowers in the second photo but I’m not really sure.

Let me help you out by posting the pic for others. It’s not doveweed - one of the crabgrasses as stated by ronk and another. Pre-emergent herbicides, Prodiamine or Dimension, applied in late winter can deal with it very effectively.

I was 70/30. Can’t take full credit. I also wasn’t the first to mention it. However, have an upvote!!
