Prove that he is a top 3 offensive mind in the NFL without Brees.
A great season my perhaps lurer Russell Wilson or Aaron Rogers here next year.

With all the injuries and suspensions, I think it’s his easiest year in terms of expectations

He’s done pretty well over the last couple of years without Drew Brees.
Hell, he’s done well on occasion in spite of Drew.

This year is interesting for 1 reason to me:
Are we going to be set at QB for a decade
or
Are we going to be looking for a decade

I’m worried Dallas may make a trade for him when McCarthy crashes and burns this year
Would be perfect fit for dak

I think he likes the amount of power he wields here, he’s basically the pseudo owner/coach/gm.

He’s only as good as what he has to work with … is Belichick a bad coach now after last year ?
Posted on 8/15/21 at 7:49 pm to ODP
Would he win the mayor of new orleans if he rqn?
Posted on 8/15/21 at 7:59 pm to BayouRat15
He has no weapons but Kamara. 5-6 wins is realistic.

This.
Nobody expects the 2021 Saints to win the Division and go deep in the Playoffs.

If he has a great season and produces a top level offense why would the want to bring in either Rodgers or Wilson who are at the end of their careers, especially Rodgers. I believe is they are successful it will be with Jameis Winston and he would be about the age Brees was when he became a Saint.

Because you can win a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers who is quite possibly the most efficient and deadly quarterback of our time.
You're not winning the Super Bowl with Jameis fricking Winston.
Producing offensive numbers =/= playoff victories.

Could have said the same thing about Drew Brees in 2006.
Rodgers has played 16 seasons and has one more Super Bowl ring than Winston. No question of Rodgers greatness, but in the context of the question if Payton coaches Winston up to a very productive season it is just as likely Winston takes them to a Super Bowl as Rodgers within the next few seasons. Winston continues to show maturity and development and has tons of talent.

Drew Brees was a Pro Bowler in 2004 and showed great progress from the time he entered the league until he became a Saint.
Jameis Winston is the same player that was drafted. No progress.
That's the difference, so no, you couldn't say the same thing about Brees. Brees was super efficient with two ~65% completion percentages in 2004 and 2005, and a TD/INT ratio of 51/22 over those 2 years, in stark contrast to his first 3 years in the league.
Winston, it could be argued, has decision-making ability that has gotten progressively worse. I keep seeing people laud his "maturity" and "development" when literally none of these things have played out for anyone to make a positive judgement on. Your expectations are not reality until proven such. Guy is the biggest cornball in the league and the most easily made-fun-of. No one takes him seriously.
Winston has never even been to, or won a playoff game as a starter. Rodgers is in the playoffs as a highly seeded team every other year it seems like. I don't want to talk about "Winston" and "Super Bowl" until he sniffs the post-season. Guy is who he has been for 5 years in Tampa until proven otherwise.

next year is bigger. this was always a trash year due to cap implications/decisions. we're going to have a cleaner slate and a year to eval Taymeis

I think the Saints are in good position.
Ideal Scenario: We either get lucky and land Wilson or Rodgers.
Expected Scenario: We go 8-9 and end up drafting around 14-17 range.
Unlikely Scenario: The shite goes bad and we end up in the Top 5-7 picks.
Any scenario is ok really. We get Rodgers or Wilson we are right back in SB contention. In the "Unlikely" scenario picking Top 5/7 we get a complete restart with a franchise QB, or you kick the QB can down the road and trade to the pick for cost-controlled assets.
For the "Expected" scenario, I don't see it as a disaster this year. We can still start shedding salary in 2022/23 and beyond, and the QB draft class looks pretty dispersed between 5-7 prospects right now (there's no Lawrence). We can potentially land a franchise QB in the middle of the 1st round.

While Brees did seem to turn the corner in 2004, the rest of your quote is completely false. Brees was up & down. There was nothing great about Brees early on in San Diego which is why he constantly in & out of the line up, being benched for Doug Flutie. Your memory is shite & you have a warped sense of reality.

Tank SZN
Take Spencer Rattler in the 2022 Draft.
Or bring in Aaron Rogers.
Or, maybe do BOTH
