They should’ve known better than to use her. Not everyone that likes Subway is a pinko liberal.

Subway franchisees have been complaining about lousy corporate policy for a long time.

The ingredients, which were decent way back when, got nastier and nastier. They oversold franchises, which is why you see multiple stores in the same area. They over advertise and print millions of coupons. They gave Jered the child molester millions per year to be the face of the company. The $5 footlong became a brand namesake but it actually lost the franchises money due to inflation.

They are not in the business of selling sandwiches to the hungry American consumer. They are in the business of selling franchise logos to immigrant investors and money launderers. Once you have signed the contract and bought the right to use their brand logo, you're screwed because corporate won't give a rat's arse about you.

I'd rather get a sandwich from a grocery store deli.

This is true. Read a while back about the $5 footlong costing them money, but it really affected the guys buying the ingredients and making the sandwiches. The Franchisee. And not corporate.

I stopped eating Subway when the news about their tuna not being actual tuna broke. I don't plan on going back.

Jimmy Johns is only slightly better than Subway. Not by much. Firehouse Subs is great.

The Irish equivalent of the FDA ruled that it doesn't even qualify to be called "bread".

I would tell everyone who likes Subway to keep eating it because it really is all about the franchisee, who likely has his entire fortune staked on his restaurant(s) and who is just the guy you know from the neighborhood or the kid's school.

As for Subway corporate, they have perfected screwing the franchisee for decades. And now, in this culture, where every person under 30 is a self-proclaimed "foodie", I have no idea how this franchise survives long-term. Quality-wise, they just aren't even vaguely competitive. They were only competitive because my generation would eat the shite because we didn't know any better in 1997.

Any company that would chose Megan Rapinoe as its advertising representative has a corporate culture that is irredeemable. In putting Rapinoe as the face of their company, Subway has shown a willingness to hire someone who expresses contempt for this country and who is so insulting to many Americans and, subsequently, many of its potential customers. The only solution is to discontinue doing business with Subway. It is unfortunate that there are many franchisees linked to a national brand that is so out of touch with (and willing to openly insult) so many of its customers, but the only solution is to hit this brand where it hurts--i.e., in its bottom line.

One alternative: a Subway franchise could post signs clearly disavowing the advertisements of its national corporate office. Supporting a Subway franchisee who does this might be a viable choice.
