That’s a little dramatic. Most people on vents don’t make it but there have been successful extubations. Mostly younger patients.

my friend who works in ICU said about only 1/10 covid patients survive when they are put on a ventilator

It’s relatively rare to survive a ventilator with covid, unfortunately.

It’s not a death sentence but it’s not a very good indicator.

We are just delaying intubation as long as possible here because we know we will have a very hard time extubaitng.

My girlfriend is an icu nurse. She said they have only had 2 covid patients who needed to be intubated that survived.

I’ve seen patients survive an intubation with covid. Usually had to be on the vent for so long they had a trach and peg by the time they were weaned from the vent. Not a quick process at all.
