Micah Bucknam went 4 innings last night and only gave up 1 hit. He faced the minimum though because he picked the guy off first base. He didn't walk anyone and struck out 3.
He's gone 4 innings each outing regardless of how he's doing. So far he's thrown 12 innings with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He's picked off at least one guy each game he's thrown. He's only striking out 21.4% of batters faced but hitters are slashing only .128/.190/.128 against him with a .167 BABIP.
He's doing this in the MLB Draft League which has a few high school guys, but it's mostly 3rd, 4th, and 5th year college guys trying to up their draft stock. So he's much younger than the majority of the competition he's facing.
I guess there is a little bit of an advantage for him in that I don't think he had a spring season, so his arm is fresher than other guys in the league.
Given that he isn't going more than 4 innings right now, he's not facing a ton of guys twice. (Though there are only 6 teams in the league, so he will face some guys multiple times.) He's currently got a 1x slash line of .080/.148/.080 and a 2x slash line of .286/.333/.286. Not great the second time through, but the small sample size means that there is an outsized effect from one of the three games he's pitched.
You'll notice that the slugging is the same as the batting average. Between the low BABIP and not having allowed an extra base hit in 12 innings, he must be inducing weak or easy to field contact.

Project, another portal guy may be on campus today. I don’t know if they have a shot at him though

Who is it nap time? Any clues?
Posted on 6/23/22 at 8:53 am to Naptime
Is it a guy that will probably go in the draft or a guy that will probably go to another school?
Posted on 6/23/22 at 9:02 am to ProjectP2294
I'm guessing it's Paul Skenes

The optimist in me would say the fact that he is even there means there is a chance. Any hints to what position?

I’ve heard of a few names but I haven’t tried to confirm them so I really don’t want to say names. I will tell you that one was the guy at USM
Any of them were or still in Omaha this week?

Genuine question: From where?
Another board, inside source, etc? No need to be specific.

Is this guy just in portal or are their connections. I only saw his stats from this year and they are pretty bad. Good k ratio. Bad walk ratio. Pure reliever.

I listened to about 4 minutes of his podcast once. Not a fan.
Definitely seems like a guy whose primary source on recruiting is this thread, but would never attribute it.

Your not joking it does say that on AYS twitter.

Whenever I mention that there is a name to monitor, it means we are in some sort of contact.
