Y’all are way too shallow on the transfer stuff
You're using a stat line to write off a transfer. A stat line for the best SS recruit in the country just a few years ago. The starting SS for a team that made the CWS Finals, hit 16 HRs, fielded .966.

What context is missing when you are looking at a kid who is potentially transferring within the same league? This isn’t a high school kid or G5 prospect that’s going to make a massive jump up in competition. He played the same players our guys played. If he was injured this year, that’s one thing. If not, at some point you have to call a spade a spade. You are having to hope this guy can figure things out in year 4 and become a completely different player in the same league he’s been playing in. There’s a better chance of him matching what he’s done so far than suddenly being a different player. It’s not impossible, just not likely.

This isn't officially recruiting news and I know OF is not where we are mining, but for the LaCross Loggers in the Northwoods Stevenson: so far so good
10 for 24 (.417) with 4 doubles, 6 walks, 6 K and 4 SB
He is guy I think we might want to strongly consider committing to giving playing time in LF. People say he is a really good athlete but he looked so clunky in the field. Experience may be just the add-in?

His brother made a huge jump year one to year two, also. He has all the talent.

This is my last post on this to stop clogging the board, but you are using stats to justify why stats don’t matter…

lipped his commitment from Washington to LSU.
Oddly enough it was Kelly who found Buchnam, not Johnson.

Yesterday we had the Jordan Thompson brigade fighting for him, now we have an anti-Carter Young debate. I just don't even know anymore.

I don't think you can "promise" a starting position to any other infielders in play right now. That is probably a deterrent for many of them. I think Pineda was the one guy available who you could assure a starting position based on his history and positional need. Thompson has to be given an opportunity to compete for a spot. If Romero and/or Guidry come to campus, they have to be given an opportunity to earn a spot. If Dugas returns, he has to have a position whether it be LF or 3B or 2B. Even guys like Merrifield, Leto, and Simon probably aren't staying if there is no competition. As I said, I think Pineda is the only guy you can guarantee a spot. I think the other 2 have to remain open for competition. That has to be a factor with all of these guys-- Denton, Young, Larry, Day, etc. Obviously there are players who supersede that if available (think Berry last season) but I don't see any of these guys as in that realm.

Power five portal players are not going to leave their current team to come to LSU to sit on the bench if they are starters on their old team. They will go somewhere else and play. I am not saying Jay guarantees spots but players like Denton etc.. can look at the roster and determine if he is gonna play. If they commit to LSU in my mind that means they are going to play.

It tells me that they looked at the roster and decided for themselves that they can beat out whoever their competition may be. That doesn’t mean if you don’t perform you get to play, is how I see that.

Sure you can
LSU has 2 open spots on the infield as we speak.
With no replacement upgrade from last year on roster

I think that's the sell though. You grab 2 or 3 guys that you know can win the job and say I've got two open spots, come in and take it. Let them decide if they trust their ability to come in and do that.

That is absolutely the sell. People might transfer but so what. The answer is not on the roster

David Folse did a nice piece on Jared Jones today...hate to take pieces from the paid site but here are some quotes...and he will be on campus July 1 for summer school.
“Honestly, I try to not think about it too much,” he said. “Obviously, this is a big decision my family and I are going to have to make. For the most part, my mindset is that I’m an LSU Tiger until someone makes me not one.
“I’m excited to become a Tiger this summer. My advisors haven’t heard too much about where I would be picked. They are letting me play the process out. It’s going to have to be life-changing money for me not to be an LSU Tiger. It is also going to have to be the right fit and the right opportunity.”

That’s really surprising, I thought he started putting together in the second half.

Also Folse noted that according to his sources, LSU is about 80% confident he makes it to school and his personal gut says 100%

Not sure how you can say you feel in your gut 100% on any of the 12-14 top guys.
