I hesitated to start this thread after it happened out of respect to Matt’s family but I am glad they talked to a reporter and shared Matt’s story
I have known Matt and his brother since they were kids. Matt was an incredibly loving person when he was sober and he put his parents through absolute hell when he was not sober.
He spent a lot of time living in Florida using, getting sober, using, getting sober, etc until he got sober and managed to stay sober. He moved back to Lafayette and found his calling helping other people by opening a sober living house.
He was very active on TD on and off the boards and he would try to help anyone in any way he could. He helped us immensely with our own opioid addicted family member.
He went back to Florida to scout locations for a new sober living house, fell into a bad situation and paid the ultimate price. Addicts are forever addicted and have to live with that every day.
Matt is the third guy from Lafayette that I know to OD on opioids and pass in the last six months. It is truly an epidemic that hits close to home
I disagree with the premise that your post history should be wiped clean if you pass, unless it is something you stipulate. There is a little girl that won’t know her Dad that may someday read his years worth of posts on social media and get a tiny glimpse of who her dad was.
RIP MATT, gone but never forgotten
