File this under "even a broken clock is right twice a day." Get government out of the way!

It is ridiculous that Congress upholds War on Drugs-era barriers on federal research into substances like psilocybin, ibogaine,& MDMA when early results are indicating major promise in treating PTSD, addiction,& more.
I’m trying (again) to lift them so we can pursue the science.

I pursued some of that science back in the day

As have I. I still conduct research on growing certain spores.

Can Democrats finally do something right? Not a single cent of tax payer money should go towards someone choosing to get high in the privacy of their own home.

Well I understand that this is the most important thing we need done presently. Put it in front of all other things.

PTSD is, most likely, a kind of physical brain trauma.
It’s a traumatic brain injury.
There are better ways to treat brain injury.

Not necessarily relevant to the OP.
But I agree.

Anti-drug people tend to be highly opinionated and highly uninformed about these topics. I too have noticed this.

It’s interesting that - in the mins of idiot liberals - the only new drugs showing promise are also popular recreationally.

I have a friend who specializes in Hyperbarics medicine and treating veterans. At first, they were looking at veterans who suffered brain injuries from IEDs. And they saw phenomenal results - it was great at that. Brain metabolism normalized and total brain volume increased. And there were life changing improvements in memory and attention.
But they also expanded it to look at veterans with just PTSD. And it’s been really good for that too.

PTSD refers to mental trauma. Psychological recovery s/p rape, horrible events witnessed, etc.

I have come to believe that PTSD is a symptom of a brain injury.
Shell shock was just a brain injury, caused by the concussive blast of a shell.

In the US, yes. I think there at eight approved uses.
In Russia there are, if I remember correctly more than a 100 approved uses.
The problem is the expense of HBOT, and the fact that it isn’t under patent. So there’s no financial incentive to study it.

I’m anti drug and I’ve pretty much tried/used about every drug you can name outside of fentanyl. I’ve also watched many of the people I regarded as friends die from various health issues related to drug use, namely cirrhosis of the liver from hepatitis.

While there is a lot of symptom overlap between post concussive syndrome and PTSD, they are most definitely different things. I’ve evaluated a lot of Veterans claiming service connection for TBI in addition to PTSD, but it is pretty much always the PTSD behind their symptoms and not the blast exposure they had 10 years ago causing current memory or attentional issues. With TBI, cognitive issues are immediate and improve in an expected pattern post-injury. You don’t have a lack of problems right after a TBI and then suddenly start to have cognitive issues due that TBI years later.

If it occupies the dem Congress and dementia patient president* to buy us a few more months until midterms, then I'm all for it. Keep them distracted by things that won't irreparably break the keel of this country as they've been doing for the last six months.

Knowing how batshit crazy and dead wrong she is on every other issue would make me question my stance on any issue where we agree.

These aren't new drugs. They showed great promise in the 50s and 60s before the government outlawed their studies to punish the hippies. The CIA using them to cause harm instead of for therapeutic reasons didn't help either.

This is irrelevant. Abusing any drug, even one as mild as acetaminophen, can be deadly. Allowing people to research these drugs is not encouraging recreational drug use. The research leads the way to patients taking them for legitimate therapy under the guidance of a physician.
Doctors will not be giving patients high dosages so they can trip balls at home. High dosages are administered through inpatient therapy sessions and guided by the physician. Any at home use is usually microdosing which does not cause a psychedelic experience.
Psychedelics are also not habit-forming and have few, if any, negative side effects. It is the most promising treatment for mental therapy and much safer than the majority of pharmaceuticals currently being used. People need to get over the stigma of psychedelics that has been ingrained in Western society.
