How long after quitting your job is it safe to claim the company laptop?

Been two weeks and nobody has asked for it yet. Can't wait to wipe the drive and put a copy of Windows 7 on this bad boy.

Somebody walking out of albersons with steaks or a case of beer they didnt pay for is no different than you

Don't be trashy. Return the damn thing.

Surprised they haven't. An ex-employee with a company laptop with company data on it is a huge risk.

In fairness I genuinely forgot about it. It was in my truck and I never used it considering I had a desktop in my office.

I think there's a bit of a difference between stealing something that cost $20 as opposed to $400.

When did McDonalds start issuing laptops to fry cooks?

Depends on the State. You can still $900 worth of goods/merchandise per day in California and they will not prosecute.

I had to drive 4 hours to San Diego from Las Vegas to return mine.

As long as you are prepared to pay the invoice they are going to send you for a replacement, then sure.

And if you worked for my firm, you'd be carrying around a useless brick right now.

Well, if the laptop is only worth $20, then maybe he did them a favor.

Corporate assets are depreciated hard.
Of course, the company can always appreciate a spare laptop for emergency.
And maybe they may need the laptop more today with chip shortages.
But under normal conditions, it wouldnt shock me if a company doesnt care about a 5 year old laptop (other than maybe confidential/proprietary info stored)

Same scenario happened to me.
I called them up and they said "send it back." I said, send me a call tag as I am not paying to ship it.
They said "just keep the damn thing."
