Snyder will co-write and direct the intergalactic adventure that is inspired by Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and 'Star Wars.'

Zack Snyder has gone from zombie apocalypses and ancient Greece to nightmares and Metropolis. Now the filmmaker is heading into far away galaxies.

Snyder has set his next project, an epic sci-fi fantasy titled Rebel Moon that he is co-writing and will direct and produce for Netflix, the home of his most recent hit, Army of the Dead. And it re-teams the filmmaker with many of the creative colleagues of his past original ventures.

The story is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius, the desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to helm them make a stand.

“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder tells THR. “It’s my love of sci-if and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”

After he threw in about 150 different conflicting zombie concepts into his last movie, he doesn’t need to tell anyone about how desperate he is to create a big IP franchise with multiple sequels and spin offs

Can't bomb in theaters if you start releasing your movies on Netflix!

Adding star wars makes that redundant.

I should probably watch Akira just so I can get all the references other people make to it. Though I’m not sure how many people actually watch it before referencing it.

I thought Snyder was working on the adaptation of Ayn Rand's Fountainhead.

He’s remastering the original black & white film to make it just black. And putting all the cut scenes back in and fixing the audio. It’s gonna be 3 hours or muffled voices on a black screen.

Got on their suicide awareness stream, big time fans of his, and straight big timed their asses and had some weird arse speech about hate. Straight up inferring that geeks and gamers are a hate group and throwing them under the bus.

Eric D July explaining it.

Oh speaking of Zack Snyder, I've never seen Sucker Punch. I just put it on my list yesterday to watch this weekend. Looks like a trip.

So this is the project he pitched to Lucasfilms years ago to do Seven Samurai but with Jedi featuring a young Yoda.

Interested to see how it works out without the built in interest in the Star Wars universe and the fact that Netflix has no profit incentive for the movie so they have no concern about polishing the script.
