Talked with a few sources while at the beach last week. Will give you what I was told.
A source = sources that have been correct on every info I received this year
B source = people in the know but haven’t always been correct
Coaches. Still interviewing coaches as late as Saturday. Should be named probably tomorrow because today is the first day of summer school. ASU pitching coach was in the lead but far from official as of Saturday. Whoever JJ hires it is 100% his hire and he’s not saying much. B Source told me this.
Support staff or whatever you want to call it. Was told that the strength coach and trainer are being retained after interviews last week. According to Ell and other people I know, this isn’t a surprise as they are suppose to be 2 of the best in the business. Maybe Kendall can confirm this. A Source told me this.
Transfers. So far only Berry. Not looking to revamp the roster through the portal. Will be adding some pitchers from the portal. At least 3 have been on campus. No commits to my knowledge though A&B Source
Roster numbers. Project has it around 50 right now. Was told it’s around 45. B Source.
Hilliard will be back. Fontenot will be back unless something changes with the draft. Same with Dugas. Haven’t heard on Labas. Marceaux I expect to be gone but was wanting a face to face with JJ.
Morgan did not play OF this summer as some have said. He had an illness and didn’t go play at all. Nothing serious and he’s good to go now. All of this from my A Source.

Must have been at the beach with the K Lady
Sounds legit, I still think Fontenot could leave. I would think Labas would be more likely to return.
Position player wise I think LSU is still in good shape even if no more through the portal.
Pitching could definitely add a few, my guess is they are waiting on pitching coach.

So some attrition and some big keeps if this comes through.

They get a few pitchers and this team can be nasty good

Will get them once they are satisfied with the pitching coach.

If it's Washburn, Heid, and Shaffer, that's really fricking exciting.

People are underestimating the pitchers on the roster. Everyone was drooling over all the 92+ guys in the CWS but don't seem to realize that those guys exist at LSU. If we can get someone in who can teach them some pitchability and confidence, we can be a damn strong team even with no extra additions especially if we keep Hilliard and Fontenot to solidify the pen. Those two guys were misused from day 1.

I would imagine this will sort itself out in the next week or so. Especially with the draft. It will cause the type of movement that will allow anyone cut loose to announce their destination.

I just like the idea of adding experience to go along with the raw guys currently on the roster.

But holding onto guys like Hilliard and Fontenot would be great as well.

I guess my point is that adding talent is secondary to who we get as the coach because talent is already here. It's just been horribly wasted.

I wonder if LSU gets the right pitcher transfers, while also retaining some key draft eligible players, if they are looking at a preseason top 5.

I feel like LSU has the potential to be highly ranked heading into next season.

Then again maybe I am bias. We still have a long ways to go before determining all that.

I don't think anyone (anyone reasonable, that is) could dispute that.

Pitching has had some bad luck with injuries as well but that's every team

Moscona interviewed him last week and he basically said he got sick and decided not to go. It was weird. My guess is he just wanted some time off from baseball

Fontenot will get a look at being a starter.

We finished around 15 thanks to the Super. We will likely be top 10 with what returns. Baseball preseason rankings are about as useful as a cat.

He's one of our better pitchers (so him throwing more innings is better than him throwing fewer).
He's proven more effective in longer outings fewer times per week.
He's got to have some incentive to come back from a personal development standpoint.

I think it's a good move to give him a shot there.

That's what I was told as well, but I'm not holding my breath on it working out. Too many swing and misses here for it to convince me it'll work.

Long illness. Good decision on his part not to go.

A roughy 2 week illness that may have been created in a lab?
