Golf Trip Ideas

Planning on taking my Pops on a golf trip and looking for ideas. We would stay 2-3 nights a play 2 or 3 rounds. I had Whistling Straits booked last June which COVID-19 cancelled. We can’t go back in the next couple months with the Ryder Cup. Located in Baton Rouge so we would either drive up to 5 hours or fly out of New Orleans. If flying, wouldn’t want to drive more than a couple hours from the airport. We have played on the Gulf Coast numerous times, so those are out. We may do Brandon Dunes in a year or two, just not this year. It’s at least 1 connecting flight then a 4 hour drive, which eats up a full day each way and doesn’t work with a shorter trip this year. Any ideas?

Pinehurst, Scottsdale,Branson, Arcadia bluffs and other courses around northern Michigan
Branson is probably fully booked for this year though

Breezy Point in Minnesota, which is a few hours out of Minneapolis. 2 of the top public courses are there and Biwabic, MN is close by with a third top course.
I played Deacon's Lodge a month ago. Breezy Point is a resort and has all the amenities.
Tee times required. The staff at the course is fantastic.

Feels like Pinehurst is the easy answer. Fly from NOLA to Charlotte and drive 2 hours or fly to Raleigh and drive an hour (but probably won’t find a direct).
Once you’re there, it’s super convenient and first class. There is so much good golf in that area it’s unreal.

I can confirm that Branson is likely booked. There was nothing available for a group of 8 through the end of the year when I checked about three months ago. Not sure how it would be for 2, but likely the same.
If the OP is talking this summer, I'd look at northern Michigan.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is a highly rated resort with 3 quality golf courses. Or you could play any of the highly ranked mountain golf resorts in the Rockies.

French Lick has gotten some heavy positive press lately. Casino, lodging, and stellar courses allegedly.
Might be a more comfortable climate for your father.
But if you can get on at Pinehurst, don’t pass it up.

Pinehurst and Bandon are the top 2 on my list domestically. Knocking pinehurst off the list next year.

Hilton Head Island isn’t a bad choice.

IF you want the entire Bandon experience, and play all the courses, you will need 3 days minimum. 5 top 100 courses, 36 holes per day, all walking.
Not as hard to get to as you might think. Just have to plan it out.
Finding a resort / golf destination with more than one course is always cool.
Look into Sand Valley. 2-18 hole course and a great short course.
Sand Valley

Any of the Robert Trent Jones courses on the Alabama golf trail are good. Usually tough, but good.

Pinehurst. Fly into Raleigh, hour drive to the town. You get a round of golf each day you stay included. $100 extra to play No. 2. Breakfast included with stay. Awesome golf trip. 10/10 would recommend.

Pinehurst usually has a “Donald Ross Package” with 3 rounds and 2 nights lodging for $1500 per person or so during shoulder seasons.
Streamsong in Florida would get you a “Bandon Light” experience for a lot less money and a quick flight to Tampa
Little more than 5 hours, but Pine Dunes/ Tempest combo in east Texas would be an easy cheap trip with some really good golf. I’m sure you could find a third course to add to the itinerary

I love desert golf so I make trips to Vegas a couple of times a year. 72 holes in 2 days is fun stuff then fly back out. I’m going in 3 weeks!
