People who played on soccer teams, were your shots as bad as these pro-level players?

I played in recreational soccer leagues for 13 years, Kindergarten through freshman year of college.
I never launched a shot 20 yards high and wide of the net. I don’t remember any of my teammates nor people we played against routinely shanking the shite out of the ball.
How do you get to the pro-level without being able to put the ball remotely close to the net?
They can do all these magic tricks with dribbling, long passes on a dime, But when it comes time to shoot the ball they regress to kindergarten soccer completely wiffing on the ball.

I’m pretty sure putting a shot out for a throw-in is a rite of passage growing up
But scoring against a professional goalkeeper while being closed down by professional defenders in front of 60,000 people can’t be easy. Watch any attacking (really any) player at that level work on finishing in warm ups or in practice, and they are absurdly capable. I recall watching Seattle and San Jose warm up years ago (pre 2014), and the only thing I took out of it was how good of a finisher everyone’s favorite whipping boy, Chris Wondowloski, was

I sat first row behind the goal before an OCSC vs Union game and watched Bedoya and Picault absolutely drill everything within 35 yards. Never truly realized how big their calves are and how hard he ball actually travels before then (never played soccer).

The harder you can hit a ball, the less margin for error you’ve got.

There's a fine line between hitting a knuckling piss missile and launching one and missing by 30 yards. Sure I've missed that bad. Anyone who played actual competitive soccer for long enough has embarrassed himself with a shot.

there is also Renato Sanchez, who always thinks the next 30 yard screamer is going in

TBF, I don’t think someone of your limited skill and athletic ability is capable of generating the power necessary to miss a shot so badly.

Played left fullback/halfback for my “career”, My favorite goal was as a college freshman bending into the net off my left foot (right dominant). To be honest, it was at full sprint and my intent was to center it, but it curved in the back corner of the net.
Ie. Even when I did miss hit it, with my non dominant foot, It was Still on target

That’s great, but part of it is the pace that you feel like you have to hit the ball to get past these keepers. A poorly paced ball has no chance of scoring from outside the box, even if your placement is perfect.

We beat some YMCA team in a Kingwood tournament when I was a kid. We were up 8-0 before half and the coach said that if anyone scored again he would kick them off the team. I say that just to say that while we were a recreational travel team, we were better than most.
However I remember seeing two “classics” teams playing each other who were part of the tournament & In the same age group but in a different division/league.
Watching them you could instantly see a difference and play. We were about 12 years old and in the game they had two bicycle kicks for goals that were pretty.
And I don’t remember anybody shanking the shite out of it
