I am pro 'pay the players'. Have been for very long time.

If paying players = birth of children, marriage (or divorce!), or new boat (real 'best days'), presume you are a big booster who now gets to keep more $ in your pocket?

Quite a few of you citing endowments for different schools, as if it is even relevant. Someone show me where Vanderbilt ,Tulane, or Princeton dips into the schools endowment to fund an athletic department.

When the full NIL rules take place, it will make recruitng even more vicious than it is now!

Can you imagine: What school will offer me the most car dealership commercials? How many jerseys will I sell if I attend X University....

It will be chaos.....and the value of the 4 year full ride scholarship is now seriously diminished.

Life has changed baws!

I thought the purpose of an athletic scholarship was so that young men (and women) could get a good education at a great university. So with one ruling these dead-beat SCOTUS Justices just turned collegiate athletics into semi-pro pay-for-play feeder programs for the NFL.

Okay, so where do I see this played out in the reduction of my taxes. I don't want to subsidize athletic scholarships for semi-pro "collegiate" athletes.

The irony of it all. The SCOTUS Justices refused to hear cases in which the Secretary of State of a number of swing states refused to follow the election laws laid down by their own legislature. Resulting in cheat-by-mail, ballot harvesting, and ballot dumps at 4:00 am in the morning. But the whissy-washy SCOTUS Judges have no qualms when it comes to sticking their nose in NCAA Sports.

What a fricking mess.

I am okay with an allowance of some kind for poor students athletes

but paying them?

the get coached, they get trained, they get on TV with LSU brand to make a name for themselves

the top players get paid bigly...after college

that's how this works

now the coaches have to deal with fairness which will create problems we don't need

Sounds like this is going to have a pretty big effect on college baseball.

The court had to step in.
An amateur organization, turned into a multimillion dollar business decades ago, but refused to pay their labor.

Are you an athlete?

I'm wondering why this was the best day of your life.

Go look at the club system in Europe. That is the future.
And, good luck on you greatest day. How many games are released for minor league / club sports.
The current system basically funds 95% of college athletics by not paying the 5% what the market would bear while maintaining their status as "charitable tax free" organizations.
Once a true professional model is introduced to "college" sports, the current athletic departments will be split from the universities. There will be no more title IX. No more track and field, tennis, etc. There won't be tax free donations or scholarships. There will simply be minor league professional teams.
I think the top football teams will survive for a while, but how many minor league teams look anything like current college athletics. In the long run, the USA does not support minor leagues very well.
A lot of people have had a chance to go from sharecropper to life long success due to athletic scholarships; while, other people went to school for 4 years and can not read. I suspect that many in the public don't really look at the big picture of the NCAA in spite of all of the adds about people who go on to "jobs outside professional sports".
